How many of you actually scratch with CD decks?
And do you have audio/video examples?
I'm just curious. I'm a laptop DJ for now, and I've never seen anyone scratch on CDJs, etc. I was just curious to how many people really do this.
eddie halliwell scratches on cd james zabiela does aswell and im sure plenty of others do.
I do.
Not too terribly often, but if I'm playing a funkier/techier upbeat set, I'll definitely scrratch over a few breakdowns.

I had CDJ 1000 MK2s and I hardly ever scratched. Sometimes I did for fun, but I just didn't like the sound vs. on TTs. It sounds more natural on TTs...and that's why more turntablists stick to TTs. A few like those mentioned, and I am sure hip hop DJs do, but most trance and progressive house DJs don't.

i do the backspin sometimes when the song is almost mixed out......
but i really dont scratch.
I do! I use the my CDj's exclusively on Vinyl Mode.

only after i watch a zabiela video
or if i am drunk
i just got my 1000s a bit more than a month ago so I'm not really comfortable with scratching on them yet. definitely interested in seeing what i can do with it in the future though

On the rare case I venture into the style of music that calls for it, I'll end up pulling a Zabiela and scratch with my EFX/CDJ-800. I could record a video, if you'd like.
right click, "save as"
a little bit of james zabiela-style faux-scratching from yours truly

Zabiela/Halliwell style scratching is cool, but that isn't "real" scratching. More like a "scratching effect." Looping the ahhhh sample and using the transformer effect isn't that hard.
This is real scratching with CDJs (well, DVJs, but same thing)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1FtGwECGOc

only when im spinning dancehall reggae; i like to do spinbacks..i havent tried it with EDM
When i get the chance to fool around with my buddys 800's i like to do spinbacks and scratch in a few beats. But on my own (Pio-3000's) it's like masturbating with a cheese-shredder
Where can I get some of these scratch samples so that I can try and do a Zabielia?
Very cool examples so far, guys
