People don't care?
Me and a friend of mine are arguing about discovering new trance songs. Basically, I'm saying that knowing who makes a song is important for discovering new music. But, my friend says, "People who listen to trance don't give a damn who makes it". My friends reasoning behind this is, "the people that do want to know who made the song want to know so that they can download mp3s". What does everyone feel about this subject?
yeah i do.......like i won't listen to darude or atb because i don't like them. I care who makes it, ask your friends the same thing because i think any metal that is made (any metalhead would like) but really you gotta stop listening to what ppl say and liking what you like because you like it.

MMM
I agree with you for a CHANGE TTA!!!!
At the end of the day it's what you like and not what what you see as apposed to the name!!
torontotrance, i think you misunderstood the topic.
I think it has to do more with whether you care who produced the song. Do you want to know that midway (for example) just made that amazing new song you're listening to? Or is just listening to the song all you care about.
Personally, I absolutely need to know who made a track and the song's name before I'll listen to it. Or else it drives me crazy... cause i need to know
It's important to like what you like, but be open to new stuff. Even if it's from an artist you don't like. If your friend says give it a try, do. If it sucks, say so.
Also, I definitely like to know what I'm listening to. Drives me nuts when I don't know the artists name of a song I love.
Yes I know all too well the frustration of hearing a great track at a rave and not knowing what the hell it's called.

) that cbxzcm's talking about the type of ppl who ONLY listen to songs by "well known top 40" producers...(I'd rather not call them artists
)
You're all right but that's just us TA's (And the rest of the music freaks), when the average clubber (In my area, that is) hears a track he would usually not care that much about the depth cause here they just like the boom boom of the kick. Either that or they would care who the artist is, just because they want a hit, so a song by Tiesto would be accepted with arms wide open the moment it's (the moment they know it's Tijs) Tiesto, just because it is Tiesto (or PvD or Cosmic Gate or Yahel or whoever) but if it's not one o fthe big hits, then uh who cares, let's not listen to it... Public is commercial, commercial is public.
I'll listen to anything and make my own judgements, it's just that we've come to expect a degree of excellency from the likes of Tiesto, PvD, Yahel, etc. So there are higher expectations.

so what would you do if you got white label-unknown?
cuz thats my fave song
I like listening to a song first before finding out who produced it.
That way, if I like it, I can be surprised.
After a while you just get to know who sounds like what and can pretty much guess who produced it.
Although there are some producers that never cease to amaze me.

| Originally posted by cbxzcm It's kind of like that, but slightly different. Lets say you hear a song you never heard before, and it's completely mind blowing. Isn't it worth knowing who made that song? My friend says it's not that important. |
I guess knowing who produced a song would have some weight, for example if they have a good reputation for producing awesome songs. But when I starting getting into trance I didn't know who was good and who wasn't, so I went to AG and typed in trance and just Dled everything. I had to sift through all the crappy songs to find the rare good ones, and most of the time they were from those one hit wonder DJ's who you don't hear about at all. So imo knowing who produced a song shouldn't really matter when discovering new trance songs.
Ok that is my spiel. Time for bed.
i don't care who makes the music... some artists don't produce music of a consistantly high standard. Even those artists that produce music which is consistantly of a high standard may produce tracks you don't like as its not your kinda thing.... The same goes for artists that usually make shit music.
Also you don't know the producer when your trying out new artists etc. So yeah i don't care as long as the music is good!
Before I was into trance, my friend would hog my computer and download all of these trance songs because he doesn't have DSL. At my house he would play Gouryella - Gouryella all the time, and I thought it was pretty good. When I found out the artist of this song, I searched for Gouryella and downloaded every song. By then I has hooked, and I checked out more trance songs. If I liked a particular song, I would check out more by the original artist. Even today, I still find myself repeating this same process of discovering songs. For me, knowing the artists was important in being introduced to trance and getting deeper into it. Does anyone find themselves doing the same thing as me, or something similar?
i prefer to know who made the good tunes i like, but if i hear a good tune and dont know who made it i still like it. i also used to get a track from an artist and get other tracks by the same guy, but i was dissappointed to many times so i dont do it as much.
i hate it when i hear a familiar tune and cant remember the name
also when i hear an excellent new tune i wanna know the name so i can get it for myself
later
