CIRCUS new politics against Stereobar?

They did it Again Circus Management Decided that no more circus DJ can't play at StereoBar and After 8 no More

Oh well that will be healty for the scene that is already not in good shape!

Great way to make your DJ angry and create tension between 2 club where they're could be a healty collaboration

Man you post controversial shit on these boards...

Interesting development nonetheless, if it's true.

Posted by chikitamtl on Mar-27-2007 00:26:

i know some friends that are affected by that decision you ca n also read about it on the Tubbies website

and I'm also Sorry for King Louis Vivie-Ann Driss Stefane Lippe Bruno Brown Erik El and Julian Prince that won't be able to do the thing they love freely

People Have To Know whats going on ! Viva la resistance!

Posted by licks on Mar-27-2007 01:03:

Interesting, should open some room up for other talent(dj's). Is that effective as of now???

Posted by nick84 on Mar-27-2007 01:38:

hahaha if you're serious about that being good for the scene... i have no words for you

by doing shit like that, they fuck the scene up more, and honestly, i dont think the management at circus nor stereobar are that stupid

Posted by Tag on Mar-27-2007 02:05:

omg im starting to like chikamtl.
keep posting controversial shit!
and thats so something i'd expect from circus, which is why i loath that place and never go there.

come on chikiii

i understand ur kinda pissed off by this but at the end of the day it's just business. You should stay away from insulting high ranking members of the scene in public.

Keep business, business you know?

This is unbelievably lame.... I was expecting to hear Lippe all afternoon after Morales this Sunday. I love hearing Bruno and Erik L. @ After-8/Stereobar too.

It sucks, I think it might be true because I've been told be some people that there is a new war going on.

Lame.

lol

Posted by MiSsfunKkyflyY on Mar-27-2007 03:40:

i'm not getting involved w any politics.............................

there's way too much of that in montreal...

the question is ... will stereobar still try to book a 'circus dj'?

i wouldnt say no if they asked me.

i dont see how stereobar is of any competition to circus.

i always go to stereobar before my sets and round up the troops before my sets at circus... heck even the owner of stereo comes to circus to hang out during my sets sometimes...

pointles. but drama nonetheless.

Posted by Kendo on Mar-27-2007 05:32:

Totally agree with Viv...

I was talking to a few people and also on MTLNIGHTs about people promoting After-8 after Circus. It's not technically direct competition to Circus and it would only be healthy for the scene. Most the Circus patrons don't even know about it and probably would like to party somewhere else if they are already still at Circus when the lights go on.

Posted by Kendo on Mar-27-2007 05:40:

ps viv read your myspace message.

Posted by FunKenLouis on Mar-27-2007 06:45:

I dont think posting that kind of stuff will help in any way the situation

I think it's temporary, and yes, indeed, some nights shouldnt be played by circus djs

Not all of them, but a couple of occasions should be stricly stereo artists

Whatever

I hate drama and i dont think posting this here will help any of us

Let them negociate all that

It'll only piss off the person you pointed out and funk up the negociations

Whats being said in a circus meeting has nothing to do with TAs

Common

By the way i didnt say if i agreed or not with what you just said...

I just think its none of your buisness

Posted by FunKenLouis on Mar-27-2007 06:47:

By the way, theres a lot of politics that arent written on these boards that could make look any club very bad

Including stereo

But again, it has nothing to do with TAs

Trying to make circus look bad wont bring back Erik / Bruno / Stefane / Any circus djs

Wrong choice

Posted by Kendo on Mar-27-2007 11:50:

I cry, no Lippe this weekend.

I also cry that Louis ignores my Facebook messages.

Posted by kate on Mar-27-2007 11:54:

Louis, I understand that these politics have nothing to do with us as TAs, but there is such a thing as freedom of speech, and I think a message board devoted to electronic music in Montreal is a pretty good place for things like this to be openly discussed.

Posted by 404 Science on Mar-27-2007 13:45:

Well its definetly nothing new, we have that stuff going on in Ottawa too. Its pretty lame when things get to that point, I'm a little jaded about the whole thing but wateva, thats the scene for ya.

whoever knew about this... maybe not the smartest move to post it on a board but... there was nothing really offensive...

but...

that means someoene who was trusted with the information opened their damn mouth... and that isnt cool. that person probably thought they could trust their friend aswell. And that friend probably thought they would look "cool" if people knew that they knew that information.

as for me, my opinion is : shit happens. If both business are talking to each others and are negotiating, well that is good. I dont see an issue of having circus djs play at stereobar or after8, how could it be direct competition? Circus is close during those times! Its not like stealing the customers!!!

Or do like the old days at the aria... put a bunch of people outside the exit flyering everybody...

Posted by Ravemontreal on Mar-27-2007 14:29:

re:

I really don't see what the fuzz is about. It's been like that for years!

When you were playing at Sona, you weren't playing at Aria.
When you were playing at Aria, you didn't play for Circus.
And now this.

Same old. A lot of DJs lost their jobs over this. The only difference is that this time a news was put out about it.

When I played for After8 and I was at Aria, I ASKED JFL if it would piss him off and he said no. If he would have said yes, I would have simply decline the invitation cause Aria was my home. Way more simple to ask than put them in front of facts.

It sucks, but it's a business and it belongs to the DJ to accept or not the terms and conditions of the employer, or say fuck this and quit. But like any rotten details of the club industry, it doesn't belong on public boards and it's really a personal issue and a case by case job decision.

It is logical, that even if After8 or Stereobar are not in the same hours, that Circus doesn't want to cooperate in Stereo's making money. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but it's certainly not a new phenomena. Just like Bell would do everything to take back any part of Videotron's market.

Posted by licks on Mar-27-2007 15:42:

I agree, wtf is the fuss about.
So what, club politics, party is a party is a party, just party and enjoy.

Couldn't disagree more.
Last I checked afterhours and clubs were around for two reasons. Make money for their owners and provide a service to their clients. Any decision that effects the clients, is very much THEIR business. Sorry louis but the ONLY reason you have a job is because of paying customers, don't forget that.
