Gil Norris - Forme (Remixes) [Precinct]

Out today on Precinct, remixes from:

Daso Mix
Micah & Shiloh Shatterfist Mix
Will of the Wisp Mix

The Daso mix is fucking terrific, beautiful breakdown, can't wait to play it this weekend - I also picked up Micah & Shiloh's mix, in stark contrast to the Daso mix it's an absolote peak hour rager that also has just a beautiful break in it.

Will of the Wisp mix is shit. Horrid.

Samples @ Beatport.

Edit: Original still pisses all over any of these though.

Give me the original aaaany day. The Daso version is the only decent one. That Micah & Shiloh one completely kills the meaning of the track. I honestly can't stand what they did with it, it's a real shame. The Will of Wisp isn't great, but it's still better than that tacky Shiloh & Micah version.

Oh, and the old Leama & Moor remix of Forme is shit too.

Yeah - I kind of expect people not to like the Micah mix, but meh - I could see it doing some damage

No doubt it could kill a floor, and had I not known about it existing if I had heard it live I would most likely thrash about to it, then be taken aback once the melody kicks in. Pardoning that, it's shallow, unimaginative, and overall papcakes.

Well, I think we are kind of in agreement then - because everyone knows dancefloors need shallow, unimaginative papcakes

Out today?

edit // oh! I didn't realize these were different mixes. Carry on

Posted by UWM on Mar-29-2007 02:57:

Rob you and I are going to have to play Rock-Paper-Scissors to see who plays the Daso mix.

I remember the Micah and Shiloh Mix being really good when I first heard it forever ago.

I really like the Micah & Shiloh Mix

Posted by Micah L on Mar-29-2007 14:24:

for you haters: our mix was made almost 3 years ago and we had VERY little time to put it together as I was visiting the Shiloh's passing through their city. yes, we Wanted to make something for the dancelfoor, and yes, it does damage to it......gwill loves it....so we're happy

why does it seem that trance fans need carbon copies in their remixes?

It doesn't, and most people in here don't. Most of us have plenty enough knowledge to make critical claims about the music we listen to.

You really need to thicken up your skin, m8. Not everyone is going to praise everything you do, and you got $2.49 of my money, so regardless of whether or not I think it's solely good for the dancefloor, I paid for it, so I'll say what I like.

Just a note, producers who come here and make broad accusations about the entire community based on a few criticisms generally don't last long - especially when the majority of the rest of their contribution to the forums borders on spam.

Who exactly is hating? With the exception of one person, everyone has made positive remarks on your remix. Is he not entitled to his opinion?

P.S Most of us are far from trance fans.

when I see people shitting on my work, I like to stand up for it from time to time.

my generalization was made on observation, if I'm an asshole, then I am...but it's just what I see

Then you probably need to pay more attention. These are the people who buy your "work."

"Standing up" for your work is fine, but this:

...just makes you look like a fool.

You really don't want to be thought of along the same lines of Steve Angello and Dave Dresden on here, unfortunately, posts like that are a good start down that road.

I actually really enjoy the Will Of The Wisp mix just for listening to while relaxing and smoking a fatty . Really deep sounding. I wouldn't mix it though.

Daso is good, cant stand the Micah mix though. Too much electro sawage.

Posted by Micah L on Mar-29-2007 14:56:

^what about our mix is electro?

first, let me rewind and thank everyone who likes the mix, and let me note that I value the negative points of view towards my work as it helps me grow

In regards to my generalization,Whether I said it or not, it's still true to an extent, sure you feel insulted and I see you stood up for our remix, but in the majority of the cases where I've read about "CROSS GENRE" remix packages, the mix furthest from the original seems to be the least liked...we were not trying to remake gwill's tune, we were trying to pay hommage to it in a creative way with the time alloted.

Posted by jupiterone on Mar-29-2007 16:06:

Well maybe not ELECTRO but something about the synth in the sample just isn't my taste, seems like I hear it being used to so many tunes now. No offense whatsoever to you, I respect you as an artist and love many of your productions.

none taken man, was just asking, thanks for the support!

First, let me state that I love most of what you do. I have caned the hell out of your Bent remix and your Sissy remix (hell, you were the one that got me into what is one of my favorite downtempo/triphop duos that is Sissy and I can't thank you enough for that), I absolutely adore Cry A River, and there are countless tracks out there you have made or remixed that puts you up there with one of my favorite producers.

I don't care when this remix was made, I just hate the way it sounds. How am I supposed to know when it was made and whether or not I can call it bandwagony if it is released in 2007 with no contrary footnote stating the actual creation of the remix?

Why should I even care?

No, I fucking hate your work on this particular track, and I hate it even more because it comes from a producer I really like and expect a lot more from.

Don't consider it a bad thing.

fair enough, I don't expect everyone to like everything I do, however, I do feel it necissary to state this remix is out dated as both myself and Shiloh have moved way beyond that sound. I'm also far from ashamed of what we put together, I constantly asked to play it at my shows, and everytime, the place goes crazy

thanks for the kinder words regardless

Actually, to be honest, Shiloh hasn't moved totally away from "that sound". I still find "that sound" in newer tracks of their's like Sentrino and Vice.

They just usually do better with "that sound" than in this case.

As for you, well you've moved on as far as I can tell, and thank god.

i actually like the Shatterfist mix quite a bit. i'd never play it, but i enjoy hearing it.

sample for the Daso mix is pretty weak so i'll wait until RJT/UWM play it this weekend to form an opinion.

Posted by Ted Promo on Mar-29-2007 22:03:

Maybe I am the only one that loathes the Shatterfist version, but I attribute that only to loving the original sofuckingmuch that I don't want it touched

Shiloh & Micah Remix = beautiful

Posted by TranceArmstrong on Mar-30-2007 07:40:

the daso mix is nice, dont like that minimal one at all. shiloh + micah one is ok but to me the original and L & M are soo much better.
