The 300 (i know, enough already)

k so i finally saw it yesterday, and if i'm remembering correctly, almost everyone on here loved it. i give that one big
honestly, it was one of the worst movies i've seen in a long long time. last movie i saw that was actually worse? war of the worlds, although the 300 gives it a run for its money.
this movie had the most half-hearted plot i've seen, even for an action movie. there was no emotion fueling the action, and especially with leonidas' unexplainable scottish accent, every speech he gave seemed like he just saw braveheart and decided to go play william wallace with his friends
lol and don't even get me started on the sex scene at the beginning, that was without a doubt the most gratuitous, pointless, and fucking epic sex scene i've seen in a while, and that's not a good thing

so seriously, to the people who saw this and liked it, what did you see in it? i'm honestly baffled

I still haven't seen it, and I'm still not sure if I want to.

Possibly, the best film review ever!

i'll be straight up honest and say i mainly liked the visuals... the plot was straightforward so hard thinking wasn't needed. i'd watch again though!

but..but...noooooo
the shots that were directly taken from the graphic novel and embellished a bit (aka the shot of the spartans pushing the dudes off the cliff, the boy and the wolf, the messenger (MADNESS!), etc) were all fucking great. HOWEVER, everything in between was so bland and lackluster that it seemed that they put all their good men on these couple shots and just rushed through the rest. this great gap between amazing cinematography and boring camera work really just distracted me from the plot and the action, although i can't say i didn't want to be distracted

Posted by Slylee on Mar-29-2007 20:52:

yea i saw it recently too and laughed more than anything during it. my date and i were adding our own gay dialogue to it the whole time. haha

it was a little too much, but still entertaining. but in no way am i like, "OMG!! GO SEE IT EVERYONE!! F'N AWESOME MOVIE"

more like, "ehh, it was aight"

Posted by RapidFire on Mar-29-2007 20:54:

its a mindless comic book action movie. take it for what it is and dont try to look any deeper and youll enjoy it

this film reminded me a lot of sin city with the visuals (thanks to frank miller?). i think i get what you mean about the awesome cinematography and then casual/plain camera scenes. i don't know, i really liked how they showed scenes like the wolf and the young king, the woman who was "possessed" or whatever in an undersea looking theme and making a play on grandiosity. i lied how they made use of emphasizing certain people or certain backgrounds, objects, etc.

Which was just as awful.

if they sell it as a mindless comic book gorefest, sure i'll enjoy it for that
if they sell it for a masterful war epic with some of the best cinematography in a while (cept mbbe the fountain), well then i'm gonna see it and be completely dissapointed
even as a stupid action movie, which is what i expected, it still let me down
even shitty action movies have a plot that keeps the action engaging

i give you, a movie summary:

i actually liked this movie... yes, a LOT of the lines and HOW the lines were delivered were cheese as hell but i think that was because it was suposed to sound "noir-ish" like back in the day...

if anything the movie made me hit the weights again

Posted by stren on Mar-29-2007 22:30:

I saw an animated graphic novel, what the fuck did YOU expect ?

Posted by Tigo on Mar-29-2007 22:34:

Yo mezzir, you should check out "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield. More graphic than Frank Millers novel and it's actually historically accurate in every way, cept for the story line of course. Definitely a good read.

I was thinking the same thing, after seeing the preview.

Posted by Caela on Mar-29-2007 22:44:

the movie was pretty laughable
the special effects were sick
the guys were RIPPED
and the sex scene was just funny...

so if you want a good date movie, this was it...the guys will enjoy it, the girls will swoon at the dudes on screen, and you won't walk out of the theater with a lot to contemplate about.

someone post that red sauce on pasta gif..... it was teh funneh... honestly i didnt watch the movie until after i saw that gif and i lol'd so hard in the theatre... the movie was great if your into decapitation and limb removal, but following the plot was almost as useless as a fat guy looking for his penis..... never gonna find it. my gf did like the rippling CGI 6 packs the spartans were sportin.... and the scene where the queen gets banged in the ass was pretty good too.

Posted by Boomer187 on Mar-30-2007 01:31:

so I guess there's no one that appreciates history here it told a fairly accurate story of the spartans while still keeping the hollywood edge.

I thought it was damn cool, the spartans were born warriors, and smart ones. And them emphasized it a lot. plus it had boobies. And whoever says a movie with boobies is bad should be pinched really really really hard on their tricep.

Posted by Orbax on Mar-30-2007 01:37:

The movie was a spectacle. The story line is amazing

It was called the battle of Thermopylae and Frank Miller made the novel out of it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_thermopylae

Who here had heard of this crazy ass tale before the movie trailers started appearing?

When xerxes was threatening that no one will remember him, we get a striking thought...a graphic novelist 2400 years later turned it into a worldwide event.

The whole thing was done on a stage, and it was acted out like a play. Much like Scorcese's flick, Gangs of New York, it was supposed to be dramatic and hyped up and filled with speeches.

If they seemed long, remember these speeches were written along with painstakingly hand drawn frames for the novel.

If anyone has seen Berserk, youll realize the Manga was much more impressive than the movie. Its the nature of the medium. A life's work vs a directors project for a few years.

It was intense in color, sound, visuals, and historical accuracy. Xerxes tent conveyed the occult nature very well and his gay hands on Leonidas' shoulders was supposed to be gay and really uncomfortable.

It seems to me making the claim that its a shitty movie because its loud is like hating a rock concert for the same reason.

Its supposed to be?

PS the subplot of how ripped those dudes are was cool. check out 300themovie.com and look at the movie journals. they have how they trained in there.

Pretty intense.

The movie is better than sex. Go watch it!
