Cool external sound card

i need an external sound card to use with my laptop when using torq.. need something that would be good enough and not too costly. do you guys have any recomendation?

Posted by BOOsTER on Mar-31-2007 11:12:

doesn't torq come with it's own audio interface?

Posted by aLviNx80 on Mar-31-2007 11:24:

yea, it does... but when i use torq on my laptop, everything works great other than the sound. it sounds like crap.. i might be wrong, but i thought an external sound card can fix this problem... if not, anyone know why it sounds so staticky and annoying?

well you need a FW ext sound card

Hi,when i have buyed my external sound card (ESI QUATA FIRE 610) i was undecided.
I just have buyed this card beacouse she has all the features that i want to use :

8 channel stereo rca ,6 out and 2 in
2 midi , 1out & 1in
2 spdf
2 optical
and it's a Firewire sound card

also i have buyed a pcmcia firewire "800" 4 my laptop (not 400)

the soundcard naturally support wdm, asio etc. etc.

i use it with cubase, ableton and tracktor to play music during my live-set
it cost 500,but now u can find it at 350
i think taht if u want the good response audio u have to buy a soundcard similar,a firewire card that have this features

PS
sorry 4 my english

if they still make it...you should check out soundblaster audigyX2 i think it is? i know they used to make one designed for a laptop to fit in that side slot where you would stick in a wireless card

Well, what exactly do you mean by "it sounds like crap?" Do you have to outputs of the Connectiv going into line inputs on your mixer and not phono?

i have everything set up right, because when i hook the connectiv to my desktop it works fine. but when i hook it up to my laptop, the sound is very staticky and pauses every 5 seconds or so.

i looked into soundblaster audigy 2zs for notebooks (i think that's what you're talking about), and i noticed there's no usb input on it, so the connectiv would have to connect to the laptop usb port, and not directly to the soundcard. would it matter?

just get a ground loop isolator

I use a Focusrite Saffire because the sound quality is really good. It doesn't have a ton of inputs (2 analog, 2 digital) but the sound quality is awesome. It records 24/192 and the sound is absolutely perfect.

+1.

I had the exact same problem when I originally got Torq.

Pick up one of these and it will solve all the static problems coming from your laptop's power supply.

It's like 16 bucks at RadioShack.

Can you post a picture of the ground loop isolator that you're using? i searched on google but only ones i see are one that connects to rca..

Sounds like your laptop may not be robust enough for Torq. Did you optimise your settings for Torq only on your laptop?
What are the specs of your lappy as compared to your desktop.

I think it should be able to handle it.. everything works fine other than the sound.

pentium 3.19gh HT
1gb RAM
80gb Hard Drive
ATI 9700 Mobility

Do people use external soundcard for Torq? I think the ground loop isolator might do the trick, but I don't know which kind to use.
