Any idea what's causing my internet to go slow?

For about 3 weeks now my internet has been lagged out really badly. It's gone from downloading 700kb/s or so optimally, to doing 6kb/s if I'm lucky, and running at sub-dialup speeds. The catch is that it's not my ISP or the connection itself at fault, my brothers computer, which is connected to the same connection via the same router, works perfectly fine. I've tried a new cord, a new network card, a complete wipe of the computer, etc, and none of it works. I'm really at a loss as to what could be causing this, and it's got everyone else I ask for help stumped.

Any idea's?

A lot of ISPs cap your download speed if you max out your upload speed.

If you arn't running anything thats uploading all the time (like torrents, etc) then check for spyware/adware/spam bots pirating your bandwidth.

Either way look into something like Netlimiter for monitoring your bandwidth. Also if you are uploading you can limit those apps like 5kbps under your max upload and avoid the cap. Thats what I do at least.

that's my suggestion.
at least work on the registry to make sure the network settings havent been tampered with.

download the proggie called TCP Optimizer, it'll change the registry to optimum for you, easy as pie
as usual, be sure to back up the reg

Like I said, I did a complete format of the system.

Except it's not an issue with my ISP, or it would be affecting the entire network, unless my ISP are somehow slowing down individual computers on that network, which I don't think is possible.

I've tampered with the settings in almost every way possible, opening/closing ports, static/dynamic IP, etc etc. None of it's helped.

Install LSP Explorer from LavaSoft and see the connection.
