Dunno Movie recommendation thread - what to see, what to skip

I'll start off by saying that you should save your money and time and skip "The rise of Taj" - awwwwwwwwwwwfullllll... Horrible. Just bad. I'd rather watch "American Wedding" 3 times in a row than watch this crapola once.

My "must see" recommendations:

- "The Prestige" - awesome, reaaaaaly good movie... just don't treat it like "OMG, that's impossible". Go along with the story and you'll find it excellent. Kinda like "The sixth sense" in terms of twists and turns.

- "The Departed" + "Internal Affairs" (original version). See Internal Affairs first, then "The Departed" for added pleasure. If you don't like watching spoiled movies or watching 2x, see "The Departed" then.

I'd add "300" but I haven't seen it yet. Waiting for all the crowds to stop flooding the movie theater, can't watch when there are all those morons on their cell phones or talking to each other "Ughuh gurl, check out the body on that one." "Aha, yeah, that's right sista - he's aaaalll dat! Break me offf a piece of that azz"... (Swear, this was the conversation between two intelligent young women seated in front of me during a preview for "300" about month ago). Then they wouldn't stop yapping all movie long. Why bother going to the movie again????

anyway.

recommend/bash away.

I enjoyed it, despite my dislike for Jack Nicholson overacting in everything he does.

its Hong Kong, not Japan..

I didn't like the prestige. After about 8 plot twists I got sick of plot twists...then they provided 18 more twists. other than that it was kinda entertaining.

What about American Pie 5 - The Naked Mile? Would you watch that 3 times in a row over Van Wilder 2? I personally wouldn't, but I agree The Taj is nowhere near as good as the original. The lead chick is hot though.

I want to see The Ultimate Gift but I can't seem to find anywhere in Sydney that's screening it

EDIT: whoops we're talking movies to skip.

Might have to check that out as I loved the Saw movies.. Everyone bashes them but I just find it cool that I could never figure them out until the end.

But anyway. Man the creepiest movie I have ever seen has to be Mannequin. Then again I saw it when I was 7 or so.. but still. Ugh. Gives me the creeps.

I have all my movies rated and there is a filter for my favorite movies. I think I have a good taste in movies.

You gave Tiesto in Concert a 4, but Snatch a 2?

Snatch is a good movie but I've only watched it twice since I bought it while I watched the first TIC probably 8 times even though some of those times were just for background music when I did college work.

3rd is much better than 2.. it actually makes sense and the plot twist is smarter.

i'll try to break it down as its a little confusing..

1st one which to me is a masterpiece within the horror genre in the last 5-10 yrs or so, was made by 2 aussies, James Wan & Leigh Whannell.. Both wrote the script & James Wan directed.

2nd one James Wan wasnt a part of it at all, it ended up being written by Whannell and Darren Lynn Bousman directing..

3rd is also written by Whannell and directed by Darren Bouman, but James Wan provided the story. maybe thats why its better than 2. cuz the story in 2 was pretty corny.

I actually found it pretty hard to come up with shitty movies.. Was trying to think of some "ehhhh" movies and just couldn't conjure up anything.. so, had to go with some obvious ones.

Aww hell, Snatch is an ace movie.

Oh - add Shawshank Redemption to my recommendations.
