Judge Jules' club sets suck!

he was in town last night and having heard his Qontact and Trance Energy sets I definetely had to go check him out...

..for the first two hours he started his set of really dark with a bunch of tech trance and progresive hardcore sounds, very boring.
I totally wasn't expecting it I didn't know if I was listening to Mauro Picotto or Judge Jules. The first song I heard when i came in was Mauro Picotto - Verdi (Megavoices Claxxis Mix)
for the first two hours i also heard
mauro picotto - pulsar (verdi remix)
warmduscher- hardcore will never die.
tiesto- lethal industry (picotto remix)
natural born groovers - forunner
joman - raggattak 2001
future breeze-temple of dreams (pedro del mar vs dj shah uk dub)

then he started to mix in some european trance-breaks like:
blank & jones - dj's, fans, and freaks (cosmic gate remix)
ferry corsten - punk

he also mixed in some uplifting trance later in the set..
dumonde - can u dig it? <--really got the crowd going
members of mayday-10 in 01 (pvd remix) with superchumbo-revolution vocals added.
marc dawn-expander (flutlicht remix) <--peaked his set with this one
4 strings - into the night <--i left after this

he also kept throwing in this song that sounded like flight 643 and he dropped at least one song with two-step breaks.

Overall since I've heard some of his best trance sets..the set was ultimately dissatisfying to me. I guess I'm just not into progressive tech trance as much as others. IMO having heard his rave stuff Jules gave me the distinct impression that he was playing to the crowd but didn't care to impress us too much. the crowd last night seemed really eager to please and liked whatever he threw down anyway. during the 3 hours he might have played maybe an hour of uplifting or epic trance and most of the ones he did spin were a bit played out (MoM - 10 in 01). i defintely will be at his Gatecrasher SSS set tho.

Please dont take this thread any-further !!!!!, This has not done a lot to my confidance as i am off to see the man in a month for 3 hourz.

here we go again... you know what i think flystyler...but you're quite welcome to defend Jules to then end as I know you will!

why the fuck did u go see him then? jules doesn't play epic trance.. he plays hard bangin stuff n drops the odd few funky house tunes!!!

if u wanna see epic trance go to pvd or tiesto or sommet!!! for gods sake if u dont like jules style keep quiet! i like his style it makes u wanna dance n its full of energy! u dont go to clubs to listen to the music u go to enjoy urself m8!!! if u dont enjoy it dont go!!

Well i like Judge Jules for his tunes that he plays. If that makes me a bad person then so be it.

But i have never gone to see a dj expecting something. You have listened to the best 2 sets in yr room on the computer. You went there expecting something.

Well i am seeing him next weekend. And i will prob enjoy it because i have my own opinion.

For me it look like he played some top stuff and i would've been bouncing, DUMONDE, MARC DAWN, FERRY, PICOTT?????????

Excuse me flystyler, but I never write posts in an attempt to get a flame from someone! Why would I do that? I visit this website to chat with others about my first love- trance! I never set out to upset people, even though sometimes debates become a little heated (for example the previous JJ thread) and people do get upset. I think upset is inevitable when discussing something you are passionate about.

When exactly did I say that you were a bad person for liking Judge Jules?! If you care to re-read my first post on this thread, I merely said that I expected you to defend Judge Jules because you like him. I'm not quite sure where you managed to find malice in that. I admit, it was intended as a sarcastic joke. And as I have a sarcastic sense of humour I never expected it to offend. I must admit, in hindsight, I don't think sarcasm translates very well in text and I apologise if I offended you. It certainly wasn't intended to wind you up!!

However, I strongly feel the following needs to be said and if it offends, then so be it.

I would just like to point out that if anyone has written a post to provoke someone else, it's your reply to me on this thread. I don't appreciate your condescending post, saying that I shouldn't provoke others and that my behaviour is noted... as though I was some little kid! I think it's a little hypocritical to tell people not to provoke and upset others when they do it themselves. I'm 23 years old... not some 15-year old school kid! I don't come here to be spoken down to. So please do not do so, as I find it particularly offensive.

Sorry to me this is writen in away that wants a reply, and what possible way can i reply to this. Well i think the best way is to just leave it. We have differening opinions. I think yr opinions r invalid, but nevermind.

ive seen judge jules twice. first time was at my first ever trance event ("rave" is so 90's it makes me sick) and he played basically radio stuff, all nite, shitty ppk, rapture (ya know by the time it grated ur brain like a cheese grater?) and other cheesy crap.

i aint seen him for a whiel, and havnt like it, but a few peopel were saying he was getting good and i didnt belive them, coz quite frankly it didnt seem feasable. last week was judgement sunday and me and gibbo mainly went to see ferry. but i was shocked. jules played a grate twoi hour set, which wasnt unstructured or crap, it was a pirist hard set, not to hard housey, plenty of hard trance thrown in there liek your cosmic gate mixes and dumonde etc. with some of that uncomplicated style hard but not so type stuff. it made a great set compared to his usualy crap, and to be quite honest the idea is to get the crowd going being a dj, and he did, and it wernt coz theyre all juels fans up ere coz they hear him o nthe radio or whatever, it was a really bangin set!

i cant say i look to jules as being one of my fave djs, but hes one i wont frown upon when seeing him in a lineups, knowing i will be able to dance to his sets and have a good time regardless (tall paul is another matter tho... hes shit)


mind you if jules plays more than a normal sized set he might get crap but who knows... i judge djs by their performences and not by their mp3s like most people on this site...

i am not the biggest jules fan myself (he acts like an asshole), but i will give him credit where its due... he's had some great sets...

a couple of weeks ago i saw him at Space Miami with Tiesto, Gielen, Fleming, and others... and Jules had the best set that night! its weird.. Jules has had some killer sets and some crappy sets.... it all is in how he feels that night i guess.... which is my only real complaint with him... he spins too many styles, that you never know what he's going to be spinning that night.... i got burnt on him once and that was too much - he spun HOUSE! oh god...

Thats what i was thinking.

There are too many complaints of "this-dj-sucks-because-he/she-doesnt-play-the-trance-i-like"

Shut up, suck it up and go to a party with an open mind to music.

i'm not flaming jules..i'm just being critical. i explained why i didn't like the set and everything. when a dj is that famous and that accomplished i expect much more from him.

when a dj gives a subpar performance i won't be ashamed to critisize him.
