Review of Cosmic Gate @ Red Light District (23.03.2007)
Cosmic Gate has been one of the most impressive DJ and production duos in the trance scene for years. I've always been fascinated by Cosmic Gate, ever since I first heard some of their best tracks such as FireWire, The Wave, and Raging (The Storm). Cosmic Gate were once one of the residents at GLOW in DC, up until August 2002. Unfortunately, I never experienced any of Cosmic Gate's legendary sets @ GLOW, as a result of GLOW's shift away from booking trance DJs on a regular basis. I finally had the chance to see DJ Bossi of Cosmic Gate @ 114 Lounge in Philly over a year ago. While it was an awesome set, the 90 minute tag team set with Mark Lenden (of Mark Norman fame) was not enough for me.
To my surprise, I found out that Global Soundwave was hosting the Traffic party in Miami on March 23rd, featuring none other than Cosmic Gate. I wasn't going to miss out!
I finally made it to the Red Light District nightclub in South Beach after 1 AM. I was a little tired, but staying at the hotel was not an option. After a Grey Goose on the rocks, I was in an even better mood! I was surprised that Red Light was a rather small venue, which only appeared to fit about 50 people in the dance floor. The front end and back end of the club were set up for VIP lounges. There was a stripper pole near the bar, with a couple of lovely ladies dancing. OK. This place seemed a little seedy but it had plenty of character.
Cosmic Gate finally took the decks after 2 AM. To my surprise, DJ Bossi AND Nic Chagall were at the club and went to perform a tag team set. This was awesome! Tag team sets from DJ Bossi and Nic Chagall are very rare in the States. I wasn't disappointed! I went crazy once I heard DJ Bossi drop the Wippenberg remix of Should Have Known...one of Cosmic Gate's more recent and most beautiful tracks! Cosmic Gate soon followed with The World Is Watching Me, the beautiful production from Rank 1 and AvB! Other tracks that made my night were Ferry Corsten - Beautiful and Cosmic Gate - Analog Feel! I was in a great mood and I couldn't stop dancing! While Cosmic Gate's set was not necessarily on the hard bangin' side, it was so impressive seeing DJ Bossi and Nic Chagall spin an awesome set without missing a beat! Even though the crowd at the club did not reach more than 50 persons, it was definitely a far better experience than if I had gone to see PvD at Space! There was an excellent vibe and everyone seemed to have a great time! Cosmic Gate were on for about 2 hours, closing out a memorable set with Nic Chagall's remix of Perpetuous Dreamer - The Sound of Goodbye! What else could I ask for?
Last but not least, I had a chance to greet DJ Bossi and Nic Chagall! It was also really cool getting my CD sleeve for Back2Back Volume 2 signed! DJ Bossi and Nic Chagall are not only great DJs and producers, but also very appreciative of their fans. Cosmic Gate rocks!
Here's hoping that I'll get to see Cosmic Gate again!
Shoutouts to...
Lil B and Suzy Solar: It was great catching up! It's hard to believe I hadn't seen you guys since the TA dinner @ Porcao (before Tiesto's legendary set @ Space) in March 2004! BTW Suzy...thanks for your mix CD!
Wenddy: Great meeting you! Thanks for the Grey Goose at the end of the night!
James Williams: Great meeting you! I really enjoyed your closing set!
Cheers!
Glad you had a good time. Hung out with them @ pawn shop earlier and @TE in holland. Love them.
