serato & CDJ help
Hi, need some advice here. im thinking of getting serato, but i already have 2 new cdj's 800mk2's. can i control the serato through my cdj's , i mean, can i change tracks, hit play, pause, search with job wheel and cue, pitch tempo etc just like im playing any other track from a CD in the CD slot ?
or i have to change tracks, play etc with my mouse on the serato on my laptop?
how the hell does this work ?
I dont do any scratching, and i really just want serato because i guess its an easy way to store and organize your mp3's , but i still love the feel of the CDJ's
thanks
B
you just keep a control cd in the cdj's to control serato. you just have to hit the track back button after each song to start @ the beginning of the control signal. i use serato w/ my cdj's for many diff reasons. plus serato is comin out w/ video soon so you can mix videos through it... i love serato and cant imagine not having it! great customer service, great product, and you can download the new versions/updates for free!
yes its exactly like playing a record/cd on tt's/cdj's. you just dont have to change records or cd's. just keep the control vinyl/cd's in.
You play, pause, cue, scratch, change pitch etc. exactly as if you were playing a normal CD with the CDJs. You can select the track on the laptop by using the CDJs, however you don't do it in the normal way. The Serato CD will have a timecode track on it (which you play once you've selected the tune you want) and a control track as well. By scrubbing through the control track in vinyl mode, you can actually scroll through the list of tracks on your laptop. However, I've found this isn't the most intuitive, especially when using lots of different virtual crates, so it's easier to just drag and drop the tune you want using the mouse.
And of course, effects on your CDJ's won't work (of course the 800's don't have any, but other decks do), and neither will master tempo
Looping and hot cues work great.
Also, the time display becomes useless... as it shows you the length of the timecode track... but you can see that data in the software, so not a big deal.
