pfft. He'll probably have a hospitality tent built just so he can aim at it in case he catches a whiff of something resembling contention.

I NO LONGER SUPPORT PHIL MICKELSON DUE TO HIS AFFILIATION WITH EXXONMOBIL.

That man is brilliant.

are we allowed to root for caddies instead?

before the 80s, all the caddies at Augusta were black. Hmm.....

Tiger, he got startled by birds mid-swing!

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Apr-07-2007 03:00:

haha...it kills me to see how many people fail to see when people are fucking around.

Go Mike Weir! He's absolute horse shit lately but sometimes manages to get his game together at Augusta.

The reason golfers get distracted by tiny noises when they're playing is not because they're fragile little infants, but because they're used to having everything quiet. What startles them is not the small noise, but the difference between that noise and the silence that preceded it. If you put a golfer on a baseball field, with a full crowd, he wouldn't have any problem hitting a ball, because the noise is constant--it's always loud. However, if you made the whole crowd quiet, then had them all yell at the same time while a guy was pitching or trying to hit, baseball players would have just as hard of a time doing what they do.

OK... ?

No need to try and explain, I think we all understand, especially those who golf.

This has to be the worst fucking Masters I"ve ever watched.

It's right up there with the 99 British Open at Carnoustie for 100% retarded course conditions. Not that I like to see players shoot 64s at Augusta but fuck, the winning score could be +5! Yikes! Leave that shit to the US Open.

The course is full of obstacles!

I've noticed how beautifully the whole thing is set up. They have a shit load of cameras, and it's really amazing. I wonder what company films it.

Tiger...tiger.. tiger...

fixed.

but honestly, tournaments with high scoring are soooooooooooooo much more entertaining. It's boring to see everyone make birdie after birdie after birdie, to be able to just fire away at every pin, and to pour in putts from everywhere. Any jackass can do that [see: Senior/Champions Tour]. I'd much rather watch somebody play on a course that's set up to be literally insane, and struggle through 18 holes to a 75. That's part of the reason that going to a tournament is so much better than watching one on tv--all they ever show is a string of highlights, all of which look the same and are completely predictable. It's boring.

Yes, Augusta usually isn't set-up like that, and the way it's designed can make for excitement even with low scores, just due to the nature of the course, particularly the greens, but I'd still rather see more tournaments like this. The worst thing the USGA has done in recent years came a few years back when they had the US Open at Olympia Fields, and they cut the rough and watered the course on Tuesday, making it about 50x easier than it was supposed to be.

i agree.. thought this years masters was pretty interesting. and as you can see, someone (zack johnson) still was able to make a charge on the back nine to clinch it. tiger had a chance, but hitting in the water on the par 5, missing the putt on 16, and hitting into the sand on 17, cost him the victory/chance for playoff. i was really rooting for a playoff whether tiger won or not cuz that would've just made it a lot more exciting

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Apr-09-2007 00:17:

I see what you guys are saying but that didn't feel like the Masters to me....at least until Johnson made those birdies and took the lead. Where was Tiger? I can see him not winning a major this year actually.

I like the back 9 at Augusta to be the lone Major where you can really rip it and go after the guys ahead of you. I love watching those old Masters highlight shows when there was no rough on the course and Jack made his famous charges. By putting rough and lengthening the course, Augusta has lost some of its lustre to me. Nobody ever goes for those par 5s anymore.

Ah well, it's still the best of the 4 Majors and the one I'd want to win most if I was a golfer.

tiger went for both of them. one of which lead to an eagle, the other of which he hit the water. padraig harrington went for it and a bunch of others. they just werent able to mount a charge on the rest of the holes. it also just didn't make sense for zack johnson to go for them because he was pretty much leading, same with retief goosen. thats called good course management. by the way, they lengthened the par 4's, not the par 5's.
