They're, Their, and There

The confusion or simply lack of knowing when these 3 words are to be used astounds me.

Posted by RJT on Apr-06-2007 14:15:

Agreed, though I definitely find myself slipping up with it occasionally when writing posts/papers/etc.

What are you talking about?

Their always used properly, I defy you to find me where there used improperly, I bet you can't point and say "they're they are being used wrong"

Posted by UWM on Apr-06-2007 14:17:

This definately bothers me.

Posted by DOOMBOT on Apr-06-2007 14:18:

I was always one of those people in school who also couldn't understand why people simply couldn't pronounce words correctly either. I mean, I wouldn't expect someone to just be able to pronounce some super long medical term, but it was just sometimes rediculous. I remember sitting in 12 grade English watching people stutter over words you should have known in 4th grade. Why the hell are kids like that pushed along the schooling system as if there isn't a problem?

I don't get irritated by that one, since it's not as simple and elementary as the others, but yes.

1. Major lol's at rediculous.... WB Googooly, you're making improvements!

2. What you described is why to this day, even in college, I hate it when teachers/professors ask students to read aloud - most people just can't, and listening to their broken stuttering makes me angry.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Apr-06-2007 14:22:

Posted by dj tek on Apr-06-2007 14:22:

i definately know what your saying man, their annoying.

Posted by shaw on Apr-06-2007 14:23:

also, adding an apostrophe to "word's" to make them "plural."

...using "they" as a singular pronoun, as in, "whenever somebody says this, I know they're illiterate."

I'm not even trying to come off as someone who is far more intelligent then others. I'm not. I'm about average if compared to everyone else. But it's just a little upsetting to see sometimes.

Probably the most irritating mistake overall.
