Ubuntu Linux Problem

I recently installed Ubuntu Linux 6.06 "Dapper Drake". everything is working great at the moment, except one thing. My resolution isn't able to change from 1024 x 768. I am running this on a Gateway MX6960 with a 15.4" wide screen display which supports 1280 x 800. The graphics are Intel GMA 950.

I am wondering if anyone on here has a way to fix this problem and if anyone could help walk me through the process.

I have found a couple solutions, one editing the xorg file. I didn't understand them however, and when I went through the process of configuring everything, royally screwed up the OS itself and was reduced to command interface entirely.

As far as I know the easiest way for you as an Ubuntu user is to upgrade to Ubuntu Edgy Eft, as it supports that resolution out of the box.

Otherwise you can edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and enter the resolution manually and restart X11.

Or you can use a handy program that will force this change,
