Looking To Buy A MiniDisc Player/Rec

http://electronics.cnet.com/electro...00.html?tag=dir

I'm looking for a MiniDisc player/recorder. I want to be able to take it to the gym and listen to my sets that I've recorded. I am assuming that when they say "recorder" it can also play.

I have my eye on the Sony MZ-R700DPC (Blue) because it has recharable batteries. How is the sound on this unit?

i would definetely pick that one up. I love my MD player/recorder, and they are the best for recording your sets and for their portability. Go to http://www.etronics.com for the best price i have seen on it yet.($182.00)

I got the Sharp MT831H. It's the equivalent model of the Sony MZR90. I'm sooo happy with it. I use it every day for 2 years now. I bought it about 285$ 2 years ago. This MD rocks all the way! I record my sets from my mixer to the line input, or MP3 by optical cable. And it is very small and it has a remote control, with editing options etc...

I've been using my Sharp MD-MT770 since x-mas to record my band's practices. The live sound I get from this unit is excellent using a powered stereo mic.

The Sharp MT770 is the Japan model, and it is tiny! It has recording, editing, and level controls right on the remote. Also, it has MDLP (long play) just like the SONY units. One advantage over SONY is that you can adjust recording levels on the fly (SONY makes you pause the recording to adjust the levels). Also, on the SONY units you have to disable the auto-gain control every time to get a good live mic'ed recording. Sharp units don't have this useless (and annoying) feature. If you are planning to do any live recording, these features alone are worth getting a Sharp unit over a SONY.

The only drawback to portable MD's: no optical output. You can't go straight digital to your PC. Even the new NetMD's with USB won't let you go MD digital to PC (only PC digital to MD). Analog out is the only current way to go, unless you buy a MD deck w/ digital out...

I suggest going with the Sharp. I bought my ancient Sharp 722 almost 3 years ago..and i use it ALOT...let me tell you, this thing can take a beating. Also, sharps have smaller features(as mentioned above) that make them better than sony units. Dont buy sony garbage. Buy sharp, cuz it will last you a LONG time.
