Confused jp-8080 patch reset with different midi pattern...

hey guys,

my problem is that i dont understand what is causing my patch on the jp-8080 to suddenly goto a random patch on there when i trigger a different midi pattern in ableton 6.

how do i overcome this? and could you explain plz about what causes it 2

thanx matt

Probably because you are sending a midi preset change command, which ableton needs to switch. Then ableton routs it to your midi outs as well causing your jp to change with it.

This or something similar probably.

Random? Or the same patch everytime?

Random would be interesting.

The same patch every time, would be, like Storyteller said, that you have a "Bank Change" and/or a "Program Change" midi message (maybe even Sysex) embedded in the midi clip.

So each time you play or change to the midi clip, it's telling your JP to change patches.

Off the top of my head (not a Live user) you would need to edit the clip, look at your "Continuous Controller" ("CC") commands and remove the ones telling it to "Bank Select" and/or "Program change"

Program change, my worst enemy.

prog/bank change

My most hated of all things in the studio. Possibly

Logic filters them out in the midi settings if you ask it nicely. I am sure ableton can do the same.

Double click on the midi clip. Down the bottom make sure that all the program banks/clips etc are set to "none".

or.. you could copy and paste the notes to a new and empty MIDI channel

Wouldn't that take the same setting with it, which means he would be back to square one?

It takes about 3 seconds to fix this problem.

Nope, not to me it doesnt, works every time. im using Cubase though.. so could be a different story with Live.

thanks guys!

yes set midi clip program to none.

i think when it is set to a number it corresponds to that as a patch default thats why when you stop the sequencer it goes to for example patch 45..

thanks for the help, i think that solved some of my midi issues for sometime lol.

thanx fledz and peeps who replied to this thread.

Ah well, that would be the difference then

Cubase is even more annoying. You have to go and delete ALL of those stupid orders. Live is just 2 clicks

No problems mzvirbulis. I swear we've all had a problem with this and then laughed after we saw how easy it was to fix. No doubt you will tell other people how to fix it in the future. It pops up once a month

1) Open List Editor
2) Delete "Program Change" commands.

I have "List Editor" assigned to "Ctrl+L" and have it set to filter out note messages. Takes me two seconds. but I run a decent bit of hardware, and always set up program changes in all my tracks for instant recall functionality.
