Review: Bal en Blanc @ Palais de Congres, Montreal - Apr. 8/07
Holy fawking shitballs this party is still going full blast. Mr. Van Buuren blew the doors off the place and A&B are playing a massive set and are interacting like I've never seen them. People are so tired they're being rolled out in stretchers but still the vibe is amazing right now. Taking a quick stretching break to prep for PREACH. I swear this has been the best party of my life. More later...A&B just dropped Dangerous Power. CHOON!!! I'm dead now.
dammit.
and here i am sitting in class.
on a side NOTE im at work and I WANT MORE DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETS
FUCK
Sounds like its even more pumpin then last year....I'm glad I didn't go though...I don't think my old body can do that kind of party anymore
Fuckkkkkk
I'm definately hitting up BeB next year regardless of exams or anything...this seems like a party you just CANT MISS!
Looking forward to seeing a full out review...lucky SOBs!!!!!!

You lucky bastards. More details pleeez!
WOW!!!!
We got there sometime after 10 to avoid a line up, and have to admit there was no problem getting in - everything moved well and there was no drama with the organization for the whole party. Wandered around to get the feel of the place and figure out where everything was (surprised to see the house room being so much smaller than the tech room).
Grondin played a good set and got me into the night. Then Rauhofer came on and yet again I have to admit I just don't get his popularity...guess its just not my thing. Wandered over for a bit to the TECH room and caught a bit of Second Sun...and they put on a good show, but once you have seem them once you have seen then all you need to. Went back to the house room and caught the last 10 minutes of Rauhofer's set and it was much better than when I had left.
Maya came on and despite some technical problems (the cd was skipping) which caused her to stop half way through her first song she really got the crowd into it and that was the start of the night for me musically.
After hearing Nat talk about Offer Nissim so much I was really looking forward to checking his/her set out (for the rest of this review I'm going to assume that Offer is a guy who just looks like a really ugly girl with really long arms and fingers). Offer Nissim was incredible. He really is a fucking nut case behind the decks - arms wailing, conducting an invisible orchestra, singing, clapping, the crowd ate it up. He makes Jon Jon look like Paul Van Dyk behind the decks - I have never seen a DJ having so much fun playing as he was.
I took a break and went and sat down to save some energy for DD. During this time Nat texted me to ask how the party was and how Offer and Maya did. My reply at 7:53 am was "Offer fucking stole the show, DD will not be better".
I was WRONG.
Dubfire came on at 8AM and proceeded to royally fuck BEB over. I have never heard him play that hard and dirty (very Lawlerish) - I was right in front of the stage for the entire 2 hours he played (I briefly contemplated taking a piss underneath the stage so I wouldn't miss any of his set - but I just held it) - good thing Sharam finally showed up and took over at 10AM. Stayed until 10:45 and finally left cause my legs were dead).
Coles notes version - Dubfire and Offer Nissim FTW.
Looking forward to next year already.
Please take this review for what it is worth - my brain hurts after Decadence and 3 days in Montreal.
Oh I have some video's of Nissim and Dubfire - will upload when back in Toronto.
Nice review Jay!
I've heard Jeremie go on about Offer when he played at Parking...didn't know he was booked for BeB tho.
Wow! Offer Nissim is totally my new favourite DJ! Wowzers. He's absolutely nuts - almost circus freakish, but WOW, he absolutely BLEW the room away.
I need to find a copy of his remix of "One Night Only"!!
I'll keep it simple as I am as Fahad said: dead.
Trance is dead, Ferry killed it. But starting this morning at 1 when SVD started his set, then with AVB blowing our minds off, A&B topping it off and Preach finishing off, all hell broke loose. Trance resuscitated and that, just in time for easter!
Holy fucking hell! What a night!
I haven't seen as many beauties in lingerie as I've seen tonight in my whole life!
Similarly, as my girlfriend pointed out, it was mutual, but then the male cuties where holding hands. If it weren't for them kissing and massaging each other, I'd have had a boner all fucking night long!
(no disrespect indented, but 2 guys kissing turns me off)
Back to the story, at 6, my gf takes a cab home, I stay.
I go at the right of the stage while Armin was playing and I see a guy with a white towel. The first thing that comes to mind is
This is how I meet M. Fahad (hope I spelled it correctly).
Two minutes later, whom do I see? A MTLTA mod like person holding a huge ass camera! That could only be Malek! :P So there, I met two TA in 5 minutes, doubling my know TA list.
Other than that, I leave it to your wildest imagination. :P

OH MY GOD, there's no words to describe the vibe the whole crowd and DJs had. Logistics to getting in was very well set-up took about 15 minutes to get in considering 15,000 people are attending this event. Security was so damn strict, they make you take off your shoes and show your pubic region. Thank God they let me take my camera in, I met so many people that told me that they had to coatcheck their cams.
This morning was my first time seeing Sander Van Doorn and I must say that he lives up to all my expectation, there will be a bright future for him. Played all the big tracks in the first hour like Black is the color, Aalto - 5, Control Freak, etc. 2nd-3rd hour was killer, he kept bringing the crowd up and dropping a sick beat. I was sooo fucked.
Armin Van Buuren came on at 4 and just controlled the crowd for the next 4 hours, it was like everyone was brainwashed by him, people clapping in uniform, jumping along with the beat, etc. AvB's crowd interaction is always nice, he came down to the crowd and start signing autographs and taking pictures.
Finally Above & Beyond what can I say about them? I've seen them three times and every time they seem to impress me, They started off with Air for Life and turned up the bass to max, the place went crazy. Moment of this set was when I yelled out 'play satellite!' and then I see Tony mouthing the words 'play satellite?' to Jono and next thing you know their playing it by my request, I love how they just add it in to their set. I know a lot of DJs have their sets planned or won't do request. I always enjoy watching them spin, their always so happy and get the crowd involved.
Overall best clubbing night, and one of the best nights of my life. I have never seen so many beautiful women in one area in my life, and same would apply with muscleheads, the carwash was in full effect last night. But I would definitely recommend everyone to go to Bal en Blanc such a wonderful experience.
Just got back from Montreal (driving) so have a good day guys and I will post up videos and pictures tonight.
Vince OUT!!!
Sounds like one helluva party

reviews just keep getting better and better...
cant wait to see pics/vids
Keep the reviews coming! Sounds like you guys had an amazing time!
Oh man I can die happily right now.
Anyways, I wished Toronto would do something like this at the international center, ACC, or congress center, but we don't have that much of an EDM following? It seems that the people from Montreal are more into House music rather than trance, the house room was more packed and had a lot more decor.
In the process of uploading the opening sets for AvB, A&B, SvD.
Can someone upload Arctic Monkeys - Sun is coming down (Svd remix) and A higher state of consciousness (marco V remix) for me?

| Originally posted by EvilTree No. It's the city council that'll prevent anything like that from happening. Heck, Toronto has street festivals every yr. (Caribbana, Pride Parade, Santa Claus Parade, etc) But can't have one for EDM b/c that'd only get people to get high on e and die. |
