What does one do with that much money?? It's criminal!

Posted by Orbax on Apr-09-2007 17:26:

Im all for capitalism, but something in that does seem immoral...as in, seriously, it is unethical to hoard that much cash

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-09-2007 17:27:

if the majority of this money is coming from stock options and stuff like that...what's the problem?

I agree man. I seriously think there's something amiss with a person who needs that much money.

if I checked my bank account, and it had 600 million dollars in it...and Id been making over 1 million dollars annually for the last 15 years...and I had my dream house, car, boat, tv, computer, sound system, wife, shoes, wardrobe, airplane, ....you name it...and I couldnt think of a single thing to buy...and I STILL had 600 million dollars...

thats a bank receipt that says $600,000,000.00 by the way...

its time for a charitable act. God gave you a great gift, go help some people.

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-09-2007 17:30:

HOSER!!!

no but really. let's say you started a company and if became one of the biggest most successful companies in the world. shouldn't you be able to exercise a right to stock options aswell?

well that i'm not arguing...there is no purpose other than a trust fund or something...

if it's solely from stock options that were established a long time ago, then I don't have a problem with it, but he definitely needs to be making a couple extra rounds at the Salvation Army buckets this year.

Oh come on, that's a little different that what we're talking about here.

Stop defending this guy!

so how much would he need to donate to be right in the world's eyes?

Posted by Orbital32 on Apr-09-2007 17:41:

If i had that much money i would setup a trust fund to make sure that all children's hospitals have free subscriptions to both playboy and maxim. Screw those stupid Highlights magazines.

Income should be capped, any form.

How much does one person need to live without hardship? Arguably under 6 figures.

I think theres a fundamental issue already when your bank account hits the 600 million mark. Put that money into investment capital, help out small businesses...youll probably get a return and help people out. Help out college funds, charities, etc...

You could get some serious ROI on a lot of charitable, beneficial investments. I don't know what hes doing with the cash, but ...I havent heard any news stories of a 4 million dollar grant to help out inner city schools or anything.

So... taxes. Only you dont call it that, you call it an income cap. I totally agree with you.

Posted by Orbax on Apr-09-2007 17:46:

Taxes are useless. I think if citizens put the money directly into local benefits, it would be better money spent than government doing it.

Bill Gates donated as much as the US government did in 2005 (over a billion dollars) I think it was and I bet he had a lot less overhead costs in getting that out. It doesnt cost him 2 billion dollars to get 1 out the door which is the feeling I get from our government.

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-09-2007 17:49:

i know what you're all saying...i'm just not really a fan of oh this person is rich so they are obligated to give everything to the less fortunate.

same thing with taxes. do rich people have to pay a higher proportion of taxes just because they're successful? i don't think so that doesn't really seem fair to me.

i think everything should be proportional.

Taxes on this sort of stuff are, indeed, useless.

and lol @ capping income.
