Anyone been to CUBA?

I'm heading to Varadero and Havana in 2 weeks. I've done some research (enough to be educated, not enough to spoil excitement), but I got 1 question.

Is there EDM to be found in either cities?

I was there about 5 years ago and I think you will be hard pressed to find EDM there... the closest I got to that was the cheezy dance music they played at the pool. I didn't exactly go looking for that though so you never know.
As far as sunny places go, you'd have better luck finding edm in Dominican Rep.

I really liked Cuba... can't wait to go back some day! Havana is amazing too.

Good luck!

nope... don't go to Cuba looking for EDM sorry they have Mambo, salsa and a bit merengue, some of the BEST dancers/entertainers, they have live bands that play at resorts, on the streets and outdoor patios and bars. LOVE cuba i've been 5 times! if u need more info u can PM me

i went to cuba last summer and has a total blast!!
however its true, you'll be hard pressed to find any type of EDM whatsoever, believe me i tried. The closest thing i got was beggin the local dj at my resort to throw on a mixed cd i had. Mostly its all soca and what not....you'll still have a good time though...they definatly know how to party in cuba!!

When i went to cuba, my friends brought a boom box and we would blast EDM by the main bar in our resort. Some people loved it, the rest were royaly pissed of and we had to argue with security to let it play for longer.

Honestly tho clubs in Varadero suck balls. GO there to enjoy yourself by relaxing, drinkign you self stupid, and travelling around to Havana and other cuban places to exeriance thier wonderful culture. Varadero is ALL tourists, it isnt very interesting there.

lol no to mention they wouldn't even change the order of it

so the only place out of the popular all inclusive destinations that has some sort of places that play EDM is Cancun?

Posted by King Luis on Apr-10-2007 16:29:

so i came back last week and there was this one club right off the beach. it has a huge rock inside of it that people usually trip over. (can't remember the name of it though (its not la rumba, totally opposite side) anywho, after about 12:30-1am the dj started playing some wicked remixes of old dance songs then went into electro house type of tracks for the rest of the night. probably the best night i had there. also, at la rumba they had off and ons with house tracks and some techno-ish songs.
just go and ask the dj to start playing house tracks, they'll probably do something for ya.
and if anyone calls BS, i got video proof so

wierd...
i went to varadero 2 years ago and from what i can remember they played some EDM...obviously not the new tracks but there was some ols school mixes.

make sure you go to a club called "international" and another one called "the caves"...those are the better of the clubs in varadero

dont waste ur time with the hotel disco lol..international is situated on the side of a cliff and it is a bit smaller than the docks...but it gets crazy packed

caves..its in an actual cave and kinda small and gets packed..but still an awsomne place

Yes if you find any American music at all it will be cheesy top40 radio stuff from 10 years ago!

Cuba is all about the History, Culture, Beaches, Cervesas, Cigars and Chicas!!!

I'm heading down in 2 weeks!!!

I went to cuba last summer. and goin again in 20 days.
They played main stream trance and house in a club @ my hotel.
mainly tiesto... armin and pvd.
i also went to a club La romba or bomba ( forgot the name)
mostly spanish music but they did play main stream trance here and there.
Over all... take ur music with u. and enjoy the one of a kind beach.

The reality of the situation is that Cuba is a communist country, and an information black hole. You can't have a computer in your house if you are not a journalist. The internet is pretty much unheard of unless you work for a large company or the government, or have connections, which mysteriously go missing every few months, thus forcing you to look for new sources. You can't call a cell phone from a Cuban land line phone, and you're having an awesome day when you can call a Cuban landline from a cell phone. It won't work; they aren't allowed to have cell phones, although you will get a signal to your Canadian/American phone there. So to think that someone would have turntables to create a local talent EDM scene is laughable. You might be lucky to hear some older mainstream tracks that your resort DJ bootlegged.

They hardly ever bring in any international talent to Cuba, so when it does happen, you're damn right it's not going to be EDM. Like the others said, enjoy the beach. There is a tonne of EDM back home. Go take a break. You'll appreciate the sweet beats when you get back that much more
