New to the TO scene, looking for a good crowd and good vibes.
Hey All! Well I'm actually not new to Toronto, been here for about two years now. I used to live in Montreal for 4 years, where I was pretty active in the afterhours scene, Stereo Nightclub was my second home and the original Sona before that.
I came to Toronto not expecting much of an afterhours culture here, I heard about the opening of Sonic a while ago, and while a club owned by Mr David Morales himself makes me want to relate it to Stereo, I don't know anyone here that would have come out with me to check it out. Now that Sonic is gone (sigh), where is the afterhours scene here? Where is Toronto's "Bal en Blanc" (which I went to this year, was great fun, people said Armin's set was mediocre but I loved it)? Where is the weekly hang out to find great people who are open to talk and open to a Toronto rave noob?? Let me know!

Welcome to toronto lol
Even with sonic gone we still have a VERY prominent afterhours community. It all depends on the day of the week but you can typically find someone any night. As for our BeB here, the closest thing would have to be Labour Of Love, held everry labour day weekend at the guvernment complex. It draws huge international names and is definatly a party that shouldnt be missed. As for the afterhours clubs, its all personal preferance....heres some that i regularily check out...
Thursday - Hotel Boutique
Friday - Footwork / This Is London
Saturday - The Drink / Guvernment
Sunday - Comfort Zone
However their are many more and im sure as more ppl reply here, they'll also list their favs as well! Happy clubbing!!
Thanks for the quick reply! A good way to kill time at work I tell ya!
I've heard of guv (and been there once) but found it very..normal clubbing ish. It was bright, it was sparkly, very commercial looking. I'm sure it could be good, but I just got a very "10-3" feeling there..maybe I should give it another chance.
And are afterhours here sort of like the Montreal ones? Like start at around 3 AM, finish around noon the next day? I heard that they close at 6 or something...I don't know if that's just a rumour! and thanks for the welcoming!
**edit**
This thing is damn addictive, keep pressing refresh you guys respond so fast.
The actual reason why I'm getting into the scene now is..after 2.5 years out of the scene, I went to Bal en Blanc 13, and was brought back to what I truly love about the scene..I need to get back in!!!

hmmm what night did you check out the guv? ususally it'll still open till 7am at least, plus the Gallery definatly doesnt have that commercial feel
as far as the hours cooresponding to Montreal, its a little different in Toronto. Here, i think we basically consider something afterhours if it stays open past 3am. Footwork typically stays open till 5:30ish, same with This is London (although ive been their till 7, all depends on the event) and Hotel is about a 5am party as well. Comfort Zone is probably what your looking for. It opens EARLY sunday morning (6am still?) and goes right through until monday, wikkid place to party after a crazzie saturday out, and definatly NOT commercial. However we also have some other venues that are a little truer to the afterhours you may be accustomed too......99 sudbury anyone?

wow! so many responses that's awesome! I shouldn't have tied my work email account to this forum account because I had like "tranceaddict" come up on my outlook over and over again.
No but really thank you all for the replies. You've all been a great help, it's not that I'm looking for intimate, I'm looking for..inviting..I guess is the best way I can put it. In Montreal I knew a lot of people, could go to the afterhours knowing a good number of people that would be there and hang out with. I know that with moving comes new challenges, so I'm just searching for the best place to start. Thanks for the replys btw, So it seems guvernment has the "monopoly" on the big name internationals (also seen some stuff for the docks), but did someone say great sound system in an intimate setting? that sounds appealing! I've been spoiled with Stereo's system

yes yes, our scene kicks ass and you'll start to notice this as soon as you leave the house hah
It's really too bad you missed out on sonic, but *sigh* no need to dwell on the past, Toronto's pretty bumpin
I have been just north of TO all my life and just got my first taste of the scene this past year, i still have to check out sooo many places myself
I should do that! I would be going to armin at Guv on the 21st if I didn't have 3 exams 20, 21, 24. Whoever of u are going, are going to have a blastttttttttt.

as far as i know right now. there is nothing around that opens at 2 or 3 in the morning like in montreal now with sonic gone. you might as well get used to the clubs opening at 10 and closing around 5 or 6. there is just no market for the later opening clubs.
comfort zone does open at 6 in the morning on sudays. lol. if you dare, check it out.
the whole scene here is run slightly differently because of the club openings.
The only 'Afterhours' that fits the type you are looking for really is the Comfort Zone.... the demand for this type of club is not as high as it once was.
That being said there are still plenty of great options in Toronto.
Montreal > Toronto (afterhours, at least)

if I dare? sounds like there's a secret about comfort zone! Nah I don't mind the 10-6, just a shift in time I guess...just not used to it hehehe. I think my first stop will either be guvernment or This is London..or maybe one of those TOTA events. many options!
Welcome to TOTA insanity.
Surprised no one mentioned viva nightclub in markham.
I use to go there when I first got into edm like 4-5 years ago. Went their recently, the sound system destroys guv, light system is up to par (maybe a bit better). (IN MY OPINION!)
Pitch dark in their really lol.
Crowd is pure sketch/asian of course lol.
Worth a check out, far from commercial in my opinion.
edit: all ages kinda sucks, but when i went recently didnt see much young people.
i've only gone on fridays. not sure what goes on for sat/sundays etc..
oh I heard about viva, a bit far since I live at Yonge and St Clair, but I heard it was alright! I'm an asian myself, but not really looking for an asian crowd. If I did I would just go to Pacific Mall.
good old pacific mall
lol i haven't been there since d2 :P
