manatee no longer considered endangered

Posted by RJT on Apr-14-2007 15:52:

I read this earlier this week, and actually, this is worse for the manatee than you'd imagine - removing them from the endangered list removes a LOT of the protections on their habitats that they need to thrive, and will most likely land them back on the endangered list sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately, another major issue is the closing of power plants up and down the southeast coast which created artificial warm springs for them to reproduce in.

This whole issue had me pretty irritated this week.

ironically enough, i was eating a manatee sandwich while reading this thread.

For the record, Rob Turner hates PETA

Posted by Aquadyne on Apr-14-2007 16:01:

Blake, I don't understand your dislike for PETA. Do you hate People who advocate the Ethical Treatment of Animals?

Posted by RJT on Apr-14-2007 16:06:

PETA is a misnomer, there's nothing ethical about those folks

A better name would be "People who deny 200,000 years of human biology and use skewed facts in a vain attempt to get the world to treat animals better than they do other humans."

Though, I'll concede it doesn't roll of the tonge nearly as well...

I really don't though! I swear! If I did I would have just gotten myself into like $80,000 on an education for no reason!

I'M NOT A PSYCHOPATH!

I know - I'm just also bored and don't have appropriately hilarious responses to give him

Maybe I should get high...

Rob Turner ... get high ... peanut butter ... jelly.

I'm sorry I'm really hungover.

manatee no longer considered endangered

Quote from the article:

"The removal of the manatee from the list can soley be attributed to the work of one man, Rob Turner. His work exploited the connection that many poachers are also clubgoers, and DJ'd events to appeal to the poachers soft-side.

As a direct result of his DJing, the Environmental Protection Agency now believes that an entire new problem may soon become a reality; Manatees appear to be reproducing far faster than before.

With the removal of their natural predator (the clubgoer) from the mix, the EPA believes that by the year 2020 the manatee will outnumber tuna and send many other species onto the endangered species list by eating their food."
