question about connections

i'm on a budget so i tried to get my set up as cheap as possible.. i have a behringer dx626 hooked up to my sound card, and my sound card to my stereo system (my stereo has rca in)

my problem is that i have to turn the volume up a lot on my stereo to be able to hear it at a decent volume.. is it just that my mixer sux? or am i missing something in my connections?

Do you have your gains set so that the main out is peaking at 0 dB?

i never really looked at that but now that i try it, i basically have to max out the gain for it to hit 0 db.. and most of my tracks are from beat port so i don't think it's the mp3s that are the issue

OK, first what output on the Behriger are you using? Does it have a rec out or master out?

Use the rec out if so.

Second go in to your sound card (which one by the way?) and make sure it mixer software(if any is set properly.

The going in to your stereo, use the line in (not phono). You can use CD in or aux if it is set at line level.

This should get a decent level to your hifi.

Your problems could be related to line levels being mismatched nut wihout knowing what soundcard or in/outs you are using there's no way to tell......

1. switched from master out to tape out (dunno if that's the same thing? but there's nothing that specifically says rec out.. either way it sounded the same.

2. the sound card i have is the sound blaster audigy 4 pro... i have never touched any settings on it.. don't really know what settings to touch for it anyway

3. and i have it set right for the stereo

basically i use my stereo as my computer speakers along with using it for the dj stuff.. i have it at a decent volume to hear all my computer sound decent, but have to almost max out the volume to hear the dj stuff.

Check the levels that are coming out of the sound card. This can usually be done by double clicking on the little speaker in the bar on the bottom right of your screen (assuming you have a PC). Make sure that all the levels are all the way up.
