Tascam x-9 opinions?

Tascam x-9

So i know its discontinued, but has anyone used one of these or better OWN one?

The parametric EQ is VERY appealing to me. I'm curious about a few things:

1: Sound quality.

2: Quality of the FX processors

3: durability/reliability.

I know A&H, Ecler, & Rane are the big dogs for sound quality. Pioneer definitely has the best FX processors. Help anyone?

I've used an X-9 quite a few times... it's not bad at all, sounds really good and is built well, but as with any kit there are always a few niggling little problems.

All of the faders have got lags on them (remember this mixer came out a fair few years ago when digital technology wasn't quite as fast as it is now!), so any cutting etc becomes pretty difficult, the parametric eq can be quite useful if you set it up right in the menu system first, but again doing anything fast is quite difficult cos you're trying to just grab the top bit (the band gain) and move that when the natural action is normally to try and get a firm grip on the whole knob ().

The FX are good but take a bit of getting used to, a lot of things are hidden in menus etc. One of the best things is the sampler - you can set a loop and adjust the in and out points with separate knobs which makes it much quicker to get the loop accurate.

was there a point to this post?

Stu, thanks for the input. If it is as you say and there is lag to the faders and the EQ takes time to set up, this probably isnt the mixer that i hoped it was. any other input from people who actually have used one of these is appreciated.

I think there was a joke in there somewhere, but he clearly missed teh funny. Better luck next time son.

As for the X-9, Ive had quite a bit of experience using one (the same one as stu as it goes haha) and Id have to agree with everything he said. The problem with the X-9 is it could have been amazing but it just misses the mark. I think perhaps its an acquired taste, some people love it. Id certainly recommend trying one out for a while before you drop your wedge on it tho.

as far as im aware there was a patch released in order to solve the lag on the faders as that was the main gripe about the mixer

you could check it out directly with Tascam

I think you're thinking of the Denon DN-X1500, for which an upgrade was released that fixed the lag on the crossfader (but not the channel faders)

Where as the Tascam X9 doesn't have the functionality to receive firmware updates so I don't see how they could have released a patch for it.

it could well be the denon im thinking of Stu but for some reason this is stuck in my head cos i was looking into getting one of them about 3 years ago before i got the 600 but like i said it could well be the denon
