Thumbs up Woot! I made US History...

by being the first person ever to be accepted into the military with only one kidney! It's usually an automatic disqualification, but thanks to Lois Capps I can join! I should be out of here within the next month and a half if everything checks out during my physical. I'll keep you guys up to date!

The Army. I had a slot reserved for special forces, but I think i was taken off because i was previously dq'd. I have to go down to MEPS and choose my MOS again. I'm still interested in doing Special Forces, but I'm also looking into either going MEDEVAC or Combat Medic.

My father was a medic on a MEDEVAC when he was in the Air Force. He left the air force after he went to Vietnam and almost had his face blown off. In fact, there used to be one popular documentary type of show on Discovery or something where you see him running out of a MEDEVAC to get someone and then whatever it was blowing up in front of him.

He was lucky. He won't really talk about it too much but he got lucky with his doctors cause you can't tell anything happened.

My mom was an MP in the Air Force. It's where my parents met. Mom wa discharged when she got preggo with my older brother.

Good luck.

Dave

Congrats. You've got a tough road ahead through Basic and AIT. Good luck with your assignment.

Posted by progressiveMOJO on Apr-18-2007 09:36:

from a former service member, best of luck! don't let them get into your head, get in shape before basic starts, blah blah you've heard it before.

it's possible to still see mary jane, you just have to be smart about it. and since most other stuff is undetectable in urine after only a few days, you have to get pretty unlucky to be caught as long as you only partake occasionally. as far as I know, policy is they only do blood or hair tests if you fail a urine test and it's not conclusive what substance you took.

and for MOS, I suggest doing anything that involves aviation, which I guess for the Army means helicopters of some sort. Along with special forces, Aviation seems to be the most chill part of every branch of the service, not to mention that airplanes and helicopters are freaking sweet. No such thing as a bad job in aviation.
