tiesto on top 3 years in a row?

now.. regardless of people's personal opinions on these tracks, it's no doubt that these were the defining top trance tunes..

2000 Silence (dj tiesto remix)
2001 Suburban Train

and.. while it's too early to tell, i wonder if southern sun will be the big anthem this year? what do you think about this?

(note: this is not another SS thread.. but a discussion on tiesto keep himself on top 3 years in a row)

personally, i don't think SS comes close to the other 2 tracks.. but if this is dropped all year long by the big name DJs you know it's going to erupt in popularity.. i mean, jesus.. it's not even out yet and it's already the talk of the town..

does tiesto really have the golden touch, or does he just know how to play the audiance?

Posted by tranceaholic on Apr-09-2002 03:28:

i think tiesto is very clever at picking his choices. he picks what will appeal to trance fans an non-trance fans.

Southern sun is better than suburban trian imo

Silence is the best ever u will never top it.

Tiesto is a smart dude and plays his cards right

Posted by zarathustra on Apr-09-2002 03:29:

We have yet to see Tiesto's best work of the year IMO, I mean it's only April right? He's probably got a bunch of tunes in his studio that he has yet to put the finishing touches on. I can wait.

Posted by Serp on Apr-09-2002 03:31:

well the way i am seeing it right now tiesto is working his ass off at the moment and no, i don't think this song will be the big anthem for the year, it's only April! but indeed it is a top track.

wait until ferry makes his appearance with the new Gouryella track which should be interesting since ferry rocks

P.S wouldn't Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Ferry Corsten Remix) be really, really nice?

can you tell i like ferry lol

Posted by failsafe on Apr-09-2002 05:11:

tiesto on top? Give me a break.

delerium perhaps would be a better idea?

silence
innocente

who cares who remixed them.

Suburban train as a top track of the year? You've surly got to be kidding (please tell me you are).

if you're counting remixes towards the top artists of the year, hybird takes tiesto to school any day of the week.

If that's your favorite style of trance/prog, maybe. But for the epic, uplifting trance remixes, Tiesto has of late been at or near the top.

Anyways, who is Hybird?

yup.. people have forgotten how to read..

this is called thread crapping..

Posted by TranceSeeker on Apr-09-2002 13:56:

wheres the "this thread is gay picture" dumonde trancer???

You can say this about every producer!

just take MIKE

1998 --> Push Universal Nation (Bonzai Records)
1999 --> Push Cosmonautica (bonzai records)
2000 --> Push Strange World
2001 --> Push The Legacy
2002 --> Tranzy state of mind (2002 club remix)

Just talking about push here, not speaking of other producers...

And btw I personally think suburban train doesnt even come close too these ones.

if this thread is gay, why would you come in here? are you looking for gay love?

and what i'm saying is that, tiesto has produced the most POPULAR trance tracks for the last 2 years overall.. i'm not stating what just his most popular tracks are. of course you could do that for any producer. regardless of if you like them or not, you can't really deny that they were simply the most popular those years. i'm just speculating if he'll do it again this year.

Posted by Ian on Apr-09-2002 14:39:

Sure, Tiesto has been impressive, but it's time for someone else to take over I think, Johan Gielen is banging the sets and the tunes, his latest tunes with svenson are magic, beauty of silence is gold still, and he is getting more popular with others, personally I've loved him for 3 years but I think his work is getting better, so I think it'll be his year, Ferry, Tiesto, Armin, PVD, and many others will always be there or there abouts, but I think Gielens close to joining them

Posted by Moley on Apr-09-2002 15:48:

tiesto's been shite since GCSSS. And southern sun is soooo overrated, its just another bog standard trance tune. I don't see the what the fuss is about

Posted by Spad on Apr-09-2002 15:52:

I think that's a vaild point. Nobody can argue that Silence wasn't the biggest track of 2000 (whether they liked it or not), and sorry but nobody would have even heard of Delerium if it wasn't for Tiesto's remix.

As for Urban Train, it was voted the top track of last year by the users of this board (I disagree but still) so nobody can argue that point, especially if they didn't bother voting.

Much to my dismay, it looks like Southern Sun is going to be a huge tune So I reckon you could be right mate.

Posted by Ste on Apr-09-2002 15:57:

yeh silence was the probably biggest (not best IMO) track of 2000 but the airscape remix was caned more than the ISOS mix...

tiesto confuses me, now and then he creates tracks of amazing quality (urban train, remix of flesh, rmx of SS) then he goes along and does a load of complete shite (most of his new album, rmxes of moby kosheen and picotto) thats why i dont lke they way most people say he is amazing, because hes incosistant as fuck, but i cant deny the way i love 2 of those tracks i mantion and SS i just like...

ah well

finally a valid point is made with something to back it up...thanks Spad

...as far as all the tiesto critics are concerned, when you are probably asked by every producer to do a remix of their track and you stick your neck out and do as many as humanly possible then they all cannot be gold...i'm sure he apologizes...but you should acknowledge that when he does hit gold that it is beautiful trance...there are so many talented djs and producers that it's pointless to compare one to another...we are all TAs (some misguided) and we all have our style and we need to just respect each other a little more (unless someone starts another Southern Sun thread )

Well i dont believe that, cause if tiesto hadnt remixed innocente, it wouldnt be as popular as it is today, and dare I say the same about Silence - so I do care bout who rmixes them-most of the great trance songs are usualy remixed
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings [Ferry Corsten Remix]
System F - Out of the Blue (5am mix)
Balearic Bill - Destination Sunshine (DJ Tiesto Remix)=====Jus had to get another Tiesto remix in!

However I do agree with this 100%!, Gielen is just getting better and better. But He will have to be real good to produce better livesets than PVD

Original Mix is better.

He DEFINATELY knows how to play the audience, but i wouldn't say he has the "golden touch." He has a very GOOD touch...

I think people judge tiesto's mixes too harshly. I didn't think Hungry and Pulsar were bad, but know he's considered overrated, and slipping for making them. No one can make great songs all of the time.

As for Southen Sun, if you don't like the vocals, you WON'T like the track! Tiesto didn't make another Silence here, he made a good mix that complements the vocals. Same with Solar Stone and G&D.

Ummm....no! Gielen makes good tracks (with Svenson) but he needs to make some INCREDIBLE tracks and DJ alot more to be up with Ferry/Tiesto/Armin/PvD

Personal Opinions , I was just using it to show my point - there are other tracks out there you can use instead.

But hey I do agree when you say that Tiesto is judged a lot - Hungry I "dont" mind, pulser is nothing great.

Hey Give Gielen a chance! This MAYBE his year

cool.. finally got some interesting discussion..

well on to my topic at hand.. it's going to be interesting to see how southern sun fares now that's it is finally coming out.. will it's popularity hold until the end of the year? will tiesto make another remix/production to be the most popular? or will another producer take the spot..

well since we can almost all agree on the most popular track for 2000/2001.. i still can't make up my mind for 1999.. would you think it was airwave or out of the blue? not which one is better, but what was more popular?

as for tiesto's quality.. somebody mentioned the album.. you can't really hold that to the same standards as singles.. albums are typically not written with 100% singles in mind. i think battleship grey is an absolutey beautiful song, but it would never hold up as a single (unless there were some great remixes), but honestly.. almost the entire album COULD be a single.. when it came out i said to myself, well.. all of these have single potential except dallas 4am, battleship grey, and lethal industry.. and well.. lethal was released as a single to my surprise.. promos of magik journey are doing the rounds (or.. according to the mp3 release groups LOL).. in my memory is the next US bound single.. and i'd be damned if they didn't release obsession..

eek.. back to work for me

i liked out of the blue better but i think that airwave got more play and was more popular

i agree with u tiesto is def a crowd pleaser, hes got incredible charisma when he plays the crowd. and he use to have the so called MAGIKAL touch.... that was like before he started to go down hill w/ both his productions and djsets. i think i first started to notice the change in his style when Tiesto Rmx of Flesh was released.. up til then he really did have the Magikal Touch w/ productions/remixes such as Aria - Willow (Magikal Remake).. all of his magikal remakes.. even his Magik series' quality declined after #6... of course these are only my opinions tiesto surely has talents obviously but it seems as though hes not putting 100% effort behind his more recent releases. but i still do believe hes capable of showing his fans wut they wanna hear. as for his artist album, i do like it, but hes def lost much respect from me in general.

as for gielen, he r0x. hes finally starting to get the recognition he deserves/d

consult your doctor, you may be retarded. Tiestos mix of innocente is absoulte trash compared with the deep dish, or lost witness, or Mr Sam's mixes. There were half a dozen remixes of silence before the ISOS mix came out. I'd totally agree that M.I.K.E puts out tracks that are 10x better then the usual tiesto riff raff. I don't think anyone could argue universal nation is better then anything tiesto's ever done. M.I.K.E's origonal material is on a level very few can compete with, and his remixes are also untouched.
