Astrix Review (pics to come soon)
Okay, so i was sooooo looking forward to this night. he is such a great producer and i love so many of his tracks and of course joof drops a ton of his tracks so i already knew it was gonna be great even though it wasn't a live set. i went in to it knowing that not all great producers are great djs but i just wanted to experience what he had to bring.
i was in no way dissappointed at all!!!!!!! from start to finish i didn't stop dancing. i planted myself front and center and never left my spot, except to go behind the dj booth to meet him and get a few pics. btw, super nice and friendly and very gracious!!! i recognized a ton of tracks but of course you know me, can't id worth a shit. it was more than i expected, solid psy-trance tracks, bigger and more intense with everyone. i know psytrance isn't everyone's cup of tea and feel that it's too assultive and may not flow but i'm telling, i thoroughly enjoyed the ride this man took us on for two hours saturday!!! i thought the mixing was spot on, the progression was perfect and the energy intense! he was having a great time up there and the crowd did too.
it was so great meeting trancetink (sara), mecca and his girl, psychadelic ed(you are one crazy mo-fo), estazar (sp) and of course the hard core psy heads that were there: refuge, blitzz, riia (technofrek)malia, thrax, dan and lisa, erick (wakadoo), TSG, josh allen and any others i am forgetting right now.
i got there around 9:30 and was supposed to be on bob's list and when i got to the door they said there was NO COMP lists at all only discount. i don't mind paying, trust me Astrix was worth it, but don't have your promoters say there will be a list and then at the last minute go, no we changed our minds!!!!! that is not cool and i lost instant respect for the promoter of sessions. then the main guy who i guess is sessions kept blowing this loud annoying horn during victor and astrix's set!!!!! i mean not just once but multiple times and he kept saying shit into the microphone during their sets and you couldn't even understand what he was saying.
circus did look nice that night. they did move the dj booth but atleast it wasn't up on that stage a million miles away, they brought it down infront of the stage and put it right there close to the crowd so it was atleast better! the bouncers were super, even the pushy isrelli guys that i heard so many scary things about were cool. not anymore handsy or grabby than any other group of drunk, crackout guys out at a club on the weekend.
bob did a superb job opening up. i know it was hard for him b/c he really wanted to unleash and i know there were many tracks he would have preferred to drop but staying in the dj code he played it respectfully and set victor up perfectly. thank you so much bob for giving me a chance to meet one of my favorite producers!!! i was so nervous to meet him and i usually am never like that. it was a huge deal and then astrix dropped a couple tracks he and jOOf worked on together and while he was playing them he nodded that they were indeed the tracks. victor was up next and did what victor does, made the crowd dance. thank you for dropping On the Ground, still love that track. i kept giving bob and victor shit, in a playful way, to play harder but ya know..........
sucks that they cut bob's closing set short!!! i loved that first track you dropped by depeche mode and i know you had lots more in store. i had to take off soon after that because my ride was leaving.
i had a great time and loved meeting and hanging with the newest addition of our TA family trancetink (sara) she rocks!!! so much fun.
forgot again to get a quesadilla
i just need to show up the next time right at 9:00 pm and eat a late dinner. circus was packed but not uncomfortably and it stayed that way pretty much up to the end.
btw, the dj upstairs nexus (sp) was banging out some nasty choons and i kept going back up there to catch him. and the two guys in the back were playing full on goa psy-trance and that room was just insane. i mean, it was an energy i have never felt before. it was pretty intense and i'm not sure i could dance to it all night but i was in there for most of their set and was just amazed!!!! i saw them later on in the crowd during astrix and spoke to them but by then they were way faded
and they didn't even look old enough to be in the club!
okay there is my short story, hope you enjoyed. i hope michelle posts the pics off her camera that she let me borrow pretty soon. i hope Astrix doesn't wait another 2 years to return to LA!
YES it was a great night! first time seeing Astrix and he blew me away!!!
btw nice to meet you gypsygirl. even if i didnt get to introduce myself to you personally. i was already chattin with you when bob was spinnin!

oh yeah Technofriik! nicee to see ya at RED friday and Circus for astrix ! what a weekend that was! wooohooo!
I kinda recall meeting a Sponger this weekend. Was it at CIRCUS?
I got there a bit late, came in to hear victor tearing it up. Astrix came on and sounded pretty good, a bit to fast and hard for me though, havent been into the full on psy for a bit. It was entertaining tho,
however that crowd there is almost unbearable. We had to leave early due to my gf being practically molested everytime i turned my head. That crowd has absolutely zero respect for that club or the other people partying inside the club, basically the vibe was to overwhelming to enjoy that place saturday night.
lol, skizzel i just realized i was calling you blitz, maybe not to you but in my head. i'm so bad with names. and i remember talking to you blitzz but didn't know your TA name. i just remember someone saying it either friday or saturday and i attached it to skizzel in my head. lol, damn ernesto
hopefully michelle can get her pics from her camera that i borrowed and running this week and she can post them.
now, my psy-trance fix is less than 4 weeks away, jOOf!!!!!!!
what a great great night!!!
ASTRIX... one dj that never dissapoints, after 2 years of long wait, it was well worth my 6 hour drive from SF... these kinda show dont come twice and it was definitely one of the best nights i ever had in EDM scene in the last 5 years~!!!! haahahah
Astrix played many songs from his CDs, i think even some from his unreleased new CD (Red Means Distortion). He was playing trax that he produced himself and they were realeased under his 2 previous CDs, EYE TO EYE and ARTCORE.
i recommend you guys to grab those cds, they are awesome!

Now it will be another long wait.. hopefully not!!! i was standing 10 minutes before astrix came on in front of the restroom by the back dance floor, and guess what??? Avi (astrix) walked right in front of me... and i just shook his hand and told him please come back!!!!h ahahaha.. well he's a nice guy, very nice, at the end of the set he came down from the stage and took a bunch or pictures with me and all my friends... a bunch!!! hahaha no complaining either... wow, it was awesome...
i realized that astrix sounds, although full-on, but it was very trance to me... it has trance elements in it, and i think thats why it made it likeable to many... it has a very good driving bassline...
i drove home on monday to SF, listening to all my astrix cds hahahaa.. that helps me get thru the 6 hour in highway 5...
anyways, the best part of the night is meeting you guys that i see in forum... thanks to all of you! u guys made circus felt like HOME...
and yeah Gypsygirl... PSYCHIC ED is one CRAZY MOFO.. believe it or not, it was only the "Grateful Dead" that made him crazy that night ahahaha!! and ernesto is the man...!

it must be the 2 z's in our names.
MaliaPix!
Here are *MY PHOTOS* from ASTRIX @ CIRCUS. Enjoy!
yay
Astrix was pretty bad-ass. I've never been a HUGE fan of full-on psy, but Astrix knew how to bring it properly in the right doses. I actually enjoyed it more than progpsy for once. Those dudes (names anyone?) in the back room were playing some heavy-duty stuff as well. Ernesto, only after making me two drinks, properly fucked me up. Then, after many people's suggestions, I tried one of his speciality drinks: the Jolly Rauncher, and I took an hour nap and missed almost an hour of Astrix's set. And when I woke up I still felt really drunk. About 50-60% of the crowd was Israeli - the normal candy ravers and e-tards were at a minimum, only in smaller numbers. They were probably at Ferry. Psy brings completely different crowds which is cool. Overall, I had a pretty bomb time.

It was Allan77 who was with Sponger and somebody just said meDina was somewhere in the club. So it was nice meeting you, Allan!
Nice to meet Trancetink too
MeDina: Next time!
When Bob came back on I was able to dance only to the first song (LOVE that Depeche Mode remix!!!) and then had to go get water and my quesadilla. When I went outside I noticed my hearing was totally wacked but I didn't notice it all when I was inside dancing

I just felt bad for the security who had to keep chasing all the Israeli cigarette smokers inside. There was a big fight too and somebody supposedly had a big knife with him but the security couldn't find it.... |
