norton anti virus vs norton internet security
i'm thinking about getting some decent virus protection software,, i found norton anti virus and norton internet security pretty well reviewed.. anyone who use one of them? which is better and what is the difference between them? is there any?
or maybe someone could give me some other good recommendations, please..
I used AVG free. ITs free, not bloated, works and good detection rate compare to those
all antivirus engines use the same typical schematics to catch malicious material, but some software makers do a bit more to touch certain areas. go to www.virustotal.com to see the popular list of antivirus softwares people are using.
i installed norton anti virus 2007... it seems to work but it slows down my computer as hell.. is there any other similar which doesn't eat cpu so much? with firewall and ect.. ? any suggestions ?

i prefer Kaspersky.
they are leading the pack right now (many current awards for best).
Internet security suites are always a pain in the arse necessity,
after having used all the major brands in the past two years,
i like Kaspersky.

Kasper is a breath of fresh air in the internet security arena.
it doesn't even come close to being a memory/processor hog like some of the others.
i have five computers in my house. four desktops that i built from scratch,
and a maxed-out dell XPS M1710 laptop.
all of them have Kaspersky internet security suite and A Squared anti-malware on them.
couple that with a Cisco hardware firewall router (linksys is Cisco's more affordable line- they work good also),
and you can travel the world on your computer without being worried about security.

I'm using Norton 2007 and it runs fine. It emebds itself in the deepest darkest registry so it's in a better position to detectr stuff (but it equally makes it difficult to uninstall!).
i use http://www.free-av.com/
AVIRA free edition. top heuristics and detection rate according to independent test group, very light system footprint too. (comparable with AVG, but looking at the detection rate i think AVIRA is slightly higher now)
AVG Free Edition has been really good on my machine, and its not a RAM hog.
Personally I would stay away from Norton. I've worked on too many machines that were compromised by malicious code, and with Norton installed. The fact is that because Norton is the best-selling anti-virus, that the virus writers are writing code to target Norton processes first before wrecking the rest of your machine.
On a side note, not opening suspicious e-mails and RARs is a good way to prevent 99% of the nasty programs that are out there. That $50 Macy's gift card just isn't worth it!
