pretty sure I am not gonna waste time and money on a guy who just gets wasted and ruins his sets...

Yeah he was absolutely atrocious that time at Avalon last year, wowwww! Never saw anyone so drunk and horribly mixing in my life!

That really, really makes me want to go. I don't think I've ever seen a DJ get absolutely bombed (I've seen them roll though )... It might be a fun party; just not taking the music 100% seriously and just rocking out in the spirit of the party. Too bad Studio is 21...

Is Serge Devant decent atleast or is it the fist-pumping fans that like him. Also DJ Tiesto put his anme out there but of course we know DJ Tiestio is full of shit when he speaks

Posted by stan229 on Apr-25-2007 03:37:

kinda relating to another thread.. how the hell does he get a headlining slot and a guy like Jason Jollins doesnt?

Posted by zachias31 on Apr-25-2007 03:52:

Hmm, i like me some Serge but yes, Jason deserves it more...

i dont think its just fistpumpers

(omg this made me laugh )

who like him...i dont think his name holds THAT much recognition does it -- unless hes been playing shows in Lodi or the Shore or other places that I do not care to know about

Serge *is* decent but he gets repetitive during his set, one too many times ive been bored with prior sets but that is just me. His remix of "Need You Tonight" is the only track i like

well not sure how much weight Tiestos words carry. He DOES herald Blake Jarrell as a TOP talent right now so I will have to believe him on that. Altho he does put Serge AHEAD of him (and that I just cannot BELIEVE ) Theres probably nepotism going here there somewhere...

Serge knows the RIGHT people.... probably the most popular NYC DJ with every club/promoter/etc. in New York, and, at the same time, he probably contributed the least into making his own name (like all the other NYC DJs do, with promo mixes, radio shows, self-promotion, etc.).

John Dimatteo....another one from the JP camp.

I know the Pacha boys are not fans of Mr. DiMatteo

Damn I would imagine rolling while DJing would be even worse, with the eye wiggles and all, cant even locate knobs or buttons...its hard enough texting while on the stuff...

^^ LOL'n at the noob. guess you haven't spent too much time in the DJ Booths.

Posted by kingchinc on Apr-25-2007 15:54:

Yes I am a noob, never DJ'd in my life before, but I can only imagine that seeing all those pretty lights in the booth would make it near impossible to do anything

Jason has actually headlined quite a few events over the years...in various places within NYC. To name a few, the now defunct CentroFly and Filter14 (ahhhh rip ) , Avalon, Sully, Webster, Crobar, Spirit, and of course, LOVE (where he was THE resident for a long time)

In the end, I dont think its a matter of Jason not getting the gigs to headline, but his own decision to open and close for MADE EVENTS.

Marsha... Marsha... Marsha...

Is Serge gonna be spinning Commercial House Music like he does in South Beach? (my friends would really hoping for that)

Posted by chortik on Apr-25-2007 17:03:

yep, and we all gotta make money rite!

Always wanted to hear what Serge would play if he headlined in a big room, this should be something to look forward to

Posted by Jason Jollins on Apr-28-2007 17:47:

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for all of the positive words and support in this thread.

I wasn't at Avalon for Serge's set in question so I can't comment on that. However, I've been a friend of his for years and have seen him play and he does deserve all of his success based on what I have seen and heard.

He's a good guy and he works very hard

off topic: do a lot of DJ's seriously roll? I ask because I know a bunch are coke heads, I knew one in toronto on K a lot(cant even IMAGINE doing shit like that) and a lot drink, but never heard about a DJ rollin.

on topic: I have liked serge's sets from what I have seen. Besides, comparing jason and serge is interesting since they play different styles.

You right on the money. (Junior for example would eat & sniff all in his path. He is one crazy Smurf)

I wont name names but a known DJ comes from the city to Brooklyn to spin at a Birthday Party and while hanging out before his set asks my friend and I if we could hook him up with some K. First thing in response I just had to take advantage and respond, "You not in Kansas anymore!", after which we made few phone calls & hooked him up with some K. His set was great as usual.
