-- replacing lcd on a laptop
replacing lcd on a laptop
it's now to the point where a screen can hardly stand on its own. It's still usable but with extreme caution so I think it's time to replace it . It's broken at the base and today it got worse. I have to hold it manually or have something back to "hold it". Anybody know type of a shop does this ? There is one special "laptop shop" nearby but I haven't checked it and what kind of price are we talking about ? The model I am talking about is Acer 3610, 15'4" , 1280x800 resolution .
best buy's geek squad can send it out to be serviced, but it will not be cheap. With an acer you might actually be better off getting a new, better laptop.
indeed. when it comes to thinking about repairing an LCD, it's better to buy a new laptop than repairing it. LCD's are expensive.
ok, I am going today to check out the stores today but just googling around I found that replacing an lcd screen is prererable to getting a whole new laptop. I paid for it around 700$ two years ago and I gather an lcd costs is half that but I know that lcd's have been coming down in costs a lot lately . Other than that it serves me pretty well overall .
I gather this is the exact model I need and it's around 150$. If I can get it for less that 200$ on a laptop, then I'll take it

| Originally posted by babyvsrhino Heres the thing, the screen is going to be much different for a laptop than a desktop one, since it's a much smaller area, different, smaller, and likely slightly more expensive components will be used, and you're also not factoring labor into the equation, so chances are you may end up landing just short of a new laptop in cost for this. |

.
ok, I just brought this brand new lcd home
19" Acer,widescreen, for 200$
I connected it to the laptop and after some confusion with the 2 monitors, it was set up but then it says " no input recognized" . I think and I hope it means that it needs an external mouse which I don't have right now . So it's gonna have to wait for now and tomorrow I am gonna pick myself a new mouse
