BT is an absolutely brilliant vocalist.

There, I said it. I don't really understand why people bash tracks where he provides them, as he could well be the most technically accomplished vocalist who sings in trance at all. (exaggeration, but kind of true anyway)

I mean, people like that Jan "Sounds-Like-15" Johnston bitch singing.

Was that an incomplete thought, or a pointless statement of fact?

Even though he might be a brilliant vocalist, generally male vocals fail in trance.

dunno if he's a brilliant vocalist or not, but i do know that his voice doesn't please me in any way at least.

Why exactly do you think this?

A comparison where you're left to draw your own conclusions.

I couldn't really give a flying intercourse about his vocals, because with the exception of Firewater, BT deciding to sing is usually the cue for the track to be one of his poorer efforts.

Agreed.

He is a good vocalist, but I don't think it's fair to compare him to female vocalist since the style is so different.

His method is far more spoken wordy sorta singing than full on sing your heart out kinda stuff.

I think some of his best vocals are in:

Satellite,

Solar Plexus

and

Shame.

Oh my god those are fucking tunes and a half.

Because the airwaves produced by nearly all male vocals in trance don't agree with my eardrums, or more specifically my perceptorium, making them sound utterly gay and cheesy to me.

(In fear of getting flamed by some righteous moral-police; with gay I mean like flaming homosexual gay, not the normal gay which of course is totally acceptable)

I think that while he is not an absolutely brilliant vocalist, he is however a pretty decent one, at least when he goes for the more subtle style, like in "shame".

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-25-2007 12:31:

i think he should stick to the studio work and leave the vocals to others. not that he doesn't have a pretty good voice...he just doesn't sing in a style i really like...

Posted by thoughtlessjex on Apr-25-2007 13:01:

As long as he's not singing for trance, and just for rock, I'm not going to give him too much shit for it.

Posted by RebeL9 on Apr-25-2007 13:06:

I'm not a fan of vocals in trance tunes. neither male or female. but still i would much rather hear BTs vocals than any of the hordes of female vocalists which are infecting so many tunes nowadays.

Not really. The male 'emo' vocals are a lot more trendy this year.

also, i hate the lyrics he writes.

I like BT's singing. I really like all vocal performances of his i've heard, including Break My Fall on the tiesto album. I prefer male voices to female in all types of music.

Posted by Spirit5 on Apr-25-2007 18:45:

"Satellite" I can genuinely say is probably his best vocal track he's sung on. But it's not trance or dance even. It's just a good pop-rock song.

Posted by jupiterone on Apr-25-2007 19:56:

If anyone is an absolutely brilliant vocalist it's Liz Fraser.

Posted by meDina on Apr-25-2007 20:32:

i actually like bt's vocals a lot

Posted by RapidFire on Apr-26-2007 00:37:

he can be hit or miss

Posted by Project-K on Apr-26-2007 00:40:

I generally don't like tracks with vocals in them, but I have to admit BT does sing rather well. Better than 99% of pop singers anyways.

There's a lot worse out there, that's for sure. He's pretty good.

Posted by Stasis on Apr-26-2007 03:09:

Yeah, BT's vocals are nice on "Satellite." That's a good little, melancholy pop song...
