the version im using records at around 12 mb per minute of recording.
which is quite obviously too much!

there is no option in the preferences tab to lower this size per minute

any clue as to how to do it?

It records as a wav. Traktor doesn't record strait to mp3, but you can convert it to mp3 after recording with a separate program.
