Why Labels, Production companies, Producers, DJs mislabel House as Trance?

Is it a Niche thing? Like making trance is supposed be a statement?

Or is it if a CD has Trance label on it, than it sells more?

Otherwise why would people mislabel and slip House as Trance?

Most house is trancey and most trance is housey now anyways.

Meh. Let's just call it "trouse", and those who listen to it "trousers".

Tiesto - Elements of Life is listed as a Trance Album. Other than one trance track ie 'Ten Minutes Before Sunrise' everything else is House, Gabber, Rock, Pop, Chese, Random.

A classic example of an oddly labeled track which always comes to mind while reading these threads, is already from 7 years back tho..

Chicane - Saltwater (The Thrillseekers House Remix)

from the 3xLP edition of Behind The Sun. I wonder what did mr Helstrip think while giving that title to the remix as it has nothing to do with house whatsoever.

it seems to be more the other way round here, with cds being called house when they're trance.

Just thank god they haven't just resorted to calling everything 'techno'.

Will you give an example of what you are referring to? Are you saying that those cheesy CDs you buy at like Best Buy for example that say House but its actually Trance or do you mean the other way around?

Well if so I might suggest staying away from companies that lump all of dance music, house, trance, techno, commercial and so on in one tiny section. I feel that, like most people not tuned into EDM & who don't have an ear for music or differentiating sounds and different rythms it all sounds the same so it makes no difference whether it says house or trance. But perhaps you are right and trance sells more so they intentionally mislabel for profitable gain. Maybe you can clarify what you mean so I can better understand you...?
