Hey car geeks...
Question for you.
Im looking at a Focus ZX3 S2 for $5500 right now. Its got 66k miles on it. Its "liquid grey." Apparently they only made 3000 of the S2's? I dont know the details about it but apparently they added a lot of cosmetic improvements along with a better suspension.
My question is, assuming the mechanic doesnt find anything terribly wrong with it, is it worth it? Im a little worried that its got 66k on it. I wanted to find something lower but I drove it and now I like it. This is my first time buying a car, and I have to admit, its freaking STRESSFUL.
Make sure you take it to a trusted family mechanic too.
The revised Focuses (Foci?) were decent cars. I can't remember any major technical faults. I think the first gen ones had a few issues which were quickly sorted out.
$5500 isn't bad for it either. Offer something like $4800 and try and end up somewhere in between. Also, check sites like www.autotrader.com to see what similar cars are selling for in your area, just to give you a frame of reference.
Good luck!
that's a lot of mileage.

In fact, you don't buy a FORD period!

ang: DONT BUY IT! i know someone with a focus and it has PROBLEMS!!!!!! its a british designed car. thats all you need to know! total shite! oh and its a ford too! so double shite!
for 6k there are LOTS of cars out there. is 6k what you have right now? if so why dont you finance a 10k car? that would mean a SUPER low payment plus your car would be quite new. like 2003ish.
your young and you NEED to start building that credit history NOW!
I have a 2003 Ford Focus SE.

I guess that could be "liquid grey", seems like it's trying hard to be silver, green, and blue at the same time.
I'm kind of going either way about this car. The handling is nice, it runs alright for right now, and it comes with a fantastic stock Blaupunkt system in it. Other than that, the gas mileage isn't too great (I think mine is around 22-25 for a 4 cylinder that isn't heavy at all), it's very hard on the front brakes due to the design, and I'm just not too sure how well it'll hold up once it starts getting above 65k.
meh.
But I got my 2003 with only 33,800 miles on it for under $9,000, so it was a good deal imo.

And also for people suggesting a manual, I live in downtown Atlanta and Im just not okay with driving one through this city. Anyways, sorry Im dragging this thread up. The Foci with the problems are the manual's. I dont know what it is about them but people have had serious problems with them. Ive done enough research, though. This particular model has no known problems and no recalls. Thats another thing. There were a TON of Focus recalls for the 2000 model year. Most of them were manuals. |

DANG WALKER!
I'd be leery of an American car with lots of miles on it, to be honest. Saturn is the only company I would trust - I have one with 75k on it, and all I've ever had done is new brake pads and new tires. Bought it when it was around 45k miles.
I used to have a Mazda Protege, and it was just fine until the engine completely failed at around 110k miles. Totaled the car (salvage price was lower than cost of fixing it).
My dad has a theory that if you die in a Saturn you automatically go to hell
its a 2001? 66k is good for that year. and check the insurance costs of it. If it is a 'special edition' they sometimes jack the prices up. Like for the svt models they increase your rates.
I have a '03 zx3 with I think 53k miles...a ton. Its a manual and drives great, really haven't had problem yet. But i know once 75 - 100k come around im gona be working on it like crazy.
