things you do/don't like in a track

DON'T LIKE:

* no climax, use the main melody twice and exactly the same as the first part

example: whiteroom - someday

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF166621-01-01-01.mp3

* non-sense lyrics

example: kyau & albert - are you fine

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF242196-01-01-05.mp3

* not worthy very long tracks (make an enough 7 mins track than a boring 12 mins one)

example: paolo mojo - 1983 (eric prydz remix)

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF248712-01-02-20.mp3

* way too long breakdowns

example: abel ramos - aquarius (randy katana remix)

http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/s...C=PULSAR001&S=b

* Remix?

example: armin van buuren - serenity
armin van buuren - serenity (signum remix)

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF259326-01-01-01.mp3
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF259326-01-01-02.mp3

* lame collaborations

example: marc marberg with kyau & albert - megashira

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF259051-01-01-01.mp3

LIKE:

* a well worhty single climax part

example: energy 52 - cafe del mar

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF93790-01-02-01.mp3

* good use of synths

example: alex morph - new harvest (human blue remix)

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF189138-01-02-01.mp3

* guitar and piano

examples: coca & villa - la noche & mike foyle - shipwrecked

http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF183766-01-02-01.mp3
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF240096-01-01-01.mp3

.......list your own examples

hate:

i also hate the same melody in both beginning and end of the song
this shows no progression really in the song

like: i like some big breakdowns sometimes

the abel ramos - aquarius (randy katana remix) breakdown is BADASS but,
i dont relaly like the start and beginning "beef" of the song.... kinda boring tekky shit

awesome bass lines that are heavy and make the dance floor move, rippin base and At Night...

pianos in songs... Flaming June, Oceanic, Firefly

DO:

Chilled, dreamy, twinkly, melodic, ethereal, emotive, beautiful....

Amethystium - Hymnody

Ulrich Schnauss - In All The Wrong Places

Euphoric, ethereal with a nice, steady beat and melody....

Mark Otten - Mushroom Therapy

Catchy melody, energetic, dreamy....

Recluse - Isle Dauphine (Probspot Mix)

Unbelievably gorgeous breakdown melody...

Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Atlantis Mix)

Good tribal percussion....

Killahurtz - West On 27th (A Tribe Called Killahurtz Mix)

Lustral - Everytime (Nalin & Kane Mix)

Flowing energy and melody...

Sasha - Xpander

Bedrock - Heaven Scent

Don't:

Crappy, cheesy vocals and melody....

Lasgo - Alone

Crappy, cheesy vocals and melody plus bad remake (females singing songs originally sung by men, who sang the song alot better and i'm not being sexist)...

DJ Sammy ft. Do - Heaven

DJ Sammy - The Boys of Summer

Ghetto, hoe and bitch rap...

50 Cent ft. Hott Rod & G-Unit - I Got Hoes

Annoying white-boy rap (eminem)....

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady

Fast, repetitive, noisey psy that over uses effects....

Xenomorph - Dexterous Convolutions

Xerox & Illumination - Under Pressure

Irritating diva house vocals...

Arman van Helden - MyMyMy

Overly repetitive andd annoying hardcore....

DJ Issac - Bad Dreams

LIKE:

Fast, swishing high hats in interesting patterns.

Armin van Buuren - Sail
DJ Governor - Red Woods

Totally unique synths/sounds

Fedde Le Grand - Miss You

Kick drums that have been reversed to form a sucking sound, usually used before the track kicks back in after a breakdown

Nenes - Turbulence (Tribal-Tech Remix)

Vocals that slow down gradually until they turn into the kick drum (not many examples here)

Discoblaster - Fading (Steve Murano Remix)

DISLIKE:

Overly cheesy/repetitive vocals

Fedde Le Grand - Put Your Hands Up For Detroit
Quesh - Candy Girl
Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky

Melodies that rapidly ascend in pitch during a build up

Paolo Mojo - 1983 (this track is awesome otherwise)

Overdriven kick drums that form a "crunch" sound instead of a "thump"

All gabber and hardcore tracks.

This actually sounds pretty cool.

I like songs that have a "mini-climax" towards the beginning that sets the mood of the track-

Examples:

The Quest - C Sharp (Original Mix)
Cosmic Gate - Should Have Known (Wippenberg Remix)
Way Out West - Don't Forget Me (WOW's Dustbiter Remix)
The Killers - Read My Mind (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)

Or any other songs w/ a huge surprising climax-

Examples:

Faithless - Insomnia

Also, love that huge "atmospheric vibe"-

Examples:

Most Planisphere songs ("NYE")
Kosmas Epsilon - Innocent Thoughts (Original Mix)
Cass & Slide - Perception
Viton & Stel - Wooden Swordz (Kosmas Epsilon Remix)
Tilt - 12

I hate basslines that don't change with the melody, such as

Twilight- Dreams Will Come True

it really pisses my off!

I LOVE that sick hardstyle distorted bassline, like the ones in:

Twisters Silence- Listen To Me mama (scot Project Remix)
Rumble! feat. Dick Rules- Tricky Tricky (Hard club mix)

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-30-2007 14:05:

LIKE:

beautifully made sounds and wonderful ambience.

The Verbrilli Sound - Honey Czars (Alucidnation Mix)

Biosphere - Arafura

emotional chord progressions.

Aphex Twin - Fingerbib

Bjork - Hyper-Ballad

tracks with great funky basslines and feel.

Baeka - More Trouble (Jussi-Pekka Mix)

Wamdue Project - Home Planet

well written and well performed vocals.

Coldplay - Speed Of Sound

Norah Jones - Don't Know Why

DISLIKE:

dance songs that are all melody

stupid lyrics that are performed terribly

poorly engineered tracks

generic basslines and percussion

music that is just noise like HHC

If you like fart sounds..sure

I don't hate all psy, but the stuff that over-uses effects sounds really annoying and corny. Prog-psy is preferred, because it doesn't seem to rely so much on acidy noises.

I'm by no means a goa/psy expert, but I know that I like Man With No Name's style... Do you know what type of goa/psy is that?

It's the Man With No Name type, no one sounds quite like him. But it's definitely goa trance, older psy and classic trance you should go for. Are there any tracks or releases you like in particular?
