Dunno help me decide on a new hair style

ok, so i haven't gotten my hair cut since January, and i keep putting it off because i cant decide if i just want it trimmed up or if i want to do something totally different, but now it's gotten to the point where i need to do something with it. i've had pretty much the same hairstyles forever... going between having it just above my shoulders with lots of layers, to having it longer with lots of layers.

i was gonna try to grow it out long since it's been a while since i've had really long hair, and i like being able to throw it all up in a ponytail in the summertime, but i also kind of miss having shorter hair. my hair is really thin and fine so it tends to get really flat and blah when it gets longer.

here's a really old picture of me with super long hair...

and a picture of me with short hair...

i've been thinking about just getting a trim and also getting more pronounced bangs cut in front, and continuing to grow it out long. i just really want something fresh and different but still easy to manage. i hate styling my hair... all i ever do with it is blow-dry it and then use a straigtener to even out the flippy parts at the end.

right now my hair is maybe 2 inches past my shoulders and layered all around.

any ideas or suggestions?

i've thought about it, but i can't afford it. professional hair coloring and touchups are freakin' expensive.

you could always buy some hair colouring, and let one of your friends do it for you..

Go for a messy, highlighted, blow-dried look.

If you really want something fresh, you really *should* do something with the color. Color, even a couple foils in the right places, changes everything. It adds depth/dimension!

edit: Ok that's it...I'm SO uploading a pic of my bf's sister this week. You two could pass for twins in your long hair pic.

yeah, i always dye my hair myself but it's always just one color all over. i had blonde highlights once a few years ago and i think i paid $80 for it.. i just can't justify spending that kind of money on my hair! i'm browsing craigslist right now to see if i can find any deals through stylists that need practice models.

so.. if i was gonna do something with the color, what would you suggest? right now all my hair is a dark brownish red color, like rich mahogany.

I really think you should reconsider this.
