you're all sinners!
well...after taking a stroll from chemistry class to kill some time before my next lecture, i came across a large sign saying something like "read the bible!" i walked over to see a young man (probably 24) shouting over a crowd illustrating a point that we are all sinners and we need to be saved.
some memorable quotes from the speakers...
"homosexuality is a sin"
"women need to submit to men"
"if you drink, you are a slave to alcohol"
it was rather nuts. i think the two speakers were brave to talk about such issues in front of college students (they each talked on their own), but the points never really got across to either side. the speaker would respond to questions/yelling and students would respond to the speaker in disbelief and sometimes anger. things that went down (when i was there):
1) a lot shouting and yelling on both sides of the issue
2) someone ripping up a bible
3) someone passing around and yelling about free condoms
4) someone making a satan circle out of sticks in front of the speaker
5) random students yelling about masturbation and xbox
first off, i though it was highly disrespectful of someone to rip up a bible, ffs. eventhough i didn't agree with a lot of the stuff the speakers were saying, some of the students were being pretty ignorant and obnoxious. it was a bit entertaining, however. it was very interesting that when someone asked repeatedly "if we are all sinners, then why aren't YOU a sinner?", there was no reply.
i think the reason why the bible people came was because "sex on the lawn" was occuring at campus today... (they were handing out condoms and penis balloons, etc). i have some vids and pics but you can't really hear much significant stuff.
have any of you guys encountered a situation like this before at a campus?
COR VERSION: there was a "rally-type" of event that occured today on campus. there were two speakers that were talking about converting and how wrapped up in sin we all are. there was lots of yelling from the students and one of the speakers... no points really got across each side. question: have you guys experienced a rally like this on campus?
I read about something like that in a thread once. Actually, it was this thread.

ach damnit
I'm a slave to alcohol.
There was a guy who came to out school and did the same thing. Was entertaining to watch him for the amount of time he was actually there prior to being escorted off property.
After he was done, I realized I was just one huge walking sin.
at ucf every wed. is free speech day on the main lawn.. this shit happens all the time not a big deal...

Depeche mode > Jesus
LOL @ "4) someone making a satan circle out of sticks in front of the speaker" - that's raw

some girl tried to explain that she didn't agree with what was being said. he asked her if she considered herself a good person. she said yes... he then proceeded to ask heif she has ever lied, ever stolen or had ever thought about another in a lusful way. when she replied yes to all of them, he then called her a liar, a stealer and a person who thinks lustfully... i didn't hear the rest after that because there was too much yelling going on after his statement, lol.

HAHAHAA!
That just makes him an unexperienced ignorant tool, with a bible.
do know what religion they were?
emm.... they were talking about the importance of christianity so i'm thinking they were christian. i'll try and post thevids and pics later but i gotta run right now.
In my first year this student group called "Campus Crusade for Christ" or CCC for short (theres to many things wrong with that) went around with chalk writing 'DO YOU AGREE WITH GRAYDON' or something along that line everywhere in the school. You couldent go from one building to the next without seeing it at least 10 times, my walk to class i counted 36 one day, and big like 6 feet wide at least. Regardless it drove everyone nuts, they started writing these dates n shit and to meet in the one hall for a speech, and it ended up being the football captain 'graydon' going on about being saved by jesus and how he couldent play football on sundays anymore. Aparently if you agreed with him that jesus had saved him, you could join thier little club and go around bible thumping. He was aparently mad he was kicked off the team for not being able to play sundays (thier main practice day i belive). It was all rather odd, if anyone else went to Guelph they can elaborate.
