headphones

new to the forums, just wondering what are good headphones for trance. i got skullcrushers because of the hype that they had a powerful bass and they down right sucked...bad, though i come from using a Sennheiser HD 580, though it doesnt provide the bass that i want. I'm defiantly a bass junkie and wouldn't mind closed headphones cause i'm sure they would provide for a better bass. I care about bass and sound quality. wondering which bass heavy headphones you guys use. Buying price should be about the same as the HD 580. Also, if this post has been posted before, sorry about it. again, new to the forums, and thanks.

How much were they if you don't mind me asking....I'm lookin right now.......I got shitty Panasonics

You should pay no more than $100 new. I couldn't find them for much cheaper online so I bought locally.

I have also seen them on craigslist but they get snatched up quick.

I think I'd pay $200 for them now. They will last you many many years too if you take care of them... if not replacement parts are cheap too.

thanks for the advice, i'll defiantly check out those pair of headphones

there really isn't such a thing as bass heavy and good sound quality in the same headphones IMO.
if you want headphones with good sound and built quality, get the sony mdr-7506s.
if you want excessive bass, just get anything that says super extra mega bass boost...

Sennheiser HD-280...German engineering, amazing sound if you got the money but I think they're not too much more if not similar in price to the Sony MDR-7506s.

I checked out that "super extra mega bass boost" called Skullcrushers and they totally sucked. the bass sounded forced into music and it didnt even belong there. quality of sound was horrible and very fuzzy because of the forced bass. bad experience, dont want to repeat that one again

otherwise good, but the headband cracks. so i wouldn't recommend them.

and as inconspicuous pointed out, there's a huge thread about headphones in the dj booth.

V-Moda Bass Freq headphones are absolutely amazing. I have two pair...one for the Ipod and one for PC gaming.

They are in-ear phones, with the bass of a 12 inch subwoofer. Very crisp treble, and your brain will be shaking from the bass. They run around $40 on Ebay...well worth it!

For overall music enjoyability I've never heard finer than the Sennheiser 580's. I own both theses and the Sony 7506's.

The 7506's don't have that bass you yearn for. They are just pure sound. What you hear is what is there.

HD-25's have that thump you need and I do wish I had a pair tbh, since I own 2 pair of 100 + cans already a third couldn't be justified.

I have the Sony MDR-7509's
A bit more on the pricy side, but I'm satisfied with them. Great sound.

Posted by tranceaddict2 on May-10-2007 08:34:

did anyone try the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro? I hear they provide a great bass and was wondering what your thoughts were?

Posted by TheKidsWantTechno on May-10-2007 10:43:

i have a pair of pioneer hdj-1000s, and think theyre fuckin awesome

great sound, very durable for DJing, and comfortable on the head

Hahahaha @ skullcrushers

Dude, I feel your pain. I often impulse buy when it comes to headphones and found out later that they are lame.

Thanks for posting your opinion though because I almost bought them!

If you want bass and treble, seriously try out Panasonic or maybe Sony (But, for some reason, I can't find any Panasonic headphones anywhere atm)

Btw, did anyone ever check these out?

I'm not sure if I want to or not, lol.

Edit: God damn, Capitalizt beat me to it when talking about the V Mode earphones.

If they are as good as you say they are.. perhaps I will pick them up today! lol.

Posted by Lunar Phase 7 on May-10-2007 16:05:

Honestly, if you are after the best all rounder headphone money can buy.

Sennheiser will never steer you wrong.

HD25.

You honestly believe that bud earphones can give anywhere near the bass response of large, enclosed phones?

The amount of bass a speaker can produce is directly proportional to the size of the speaker cone, and thus, the magnet too.

Hence why bud earphones give terrible bass, and always will.

+11111

IMO you dont need mega bass to DJ.. you need clarity and the ability to identify and isolate important frequencies while blending a mix. And nothing gets better than the HD-25.

Beyond that, it's a question of personal preferance as to how much bass and mids and highs make you feel happy when you're in the booth and mixing... but the HD-25 clarity is hard to beat.
