no Sven Vath review?
no one went to see Sven?

this can't be true.
I have yet to see the man play. I will probably never see him either unless I manage to work my vaction around his schedule or suck up the costs and go to Ibiza.
I was going to ask the same thing about Jeff Mills.
geez the techno lovers are either slacking or still recovering.
My friend Alex went, but i think he was smashed when he got there, and plus is a house-only guy, so he had nothing helpful to say.
By far...the best night I've had in a LONG LONG time...
Vath was crazy...musically and in behavior as well...i don't know what he was on, but he was alot of fun...
It was my first time at cielo and I loved the vibe and the setting for his music...A lot of energy and crowd interaction...
i'll post video/pics shortly
u ask and u shall receive haha
i'm still recovering
got there around 11 pm or with GHB and barosoap - there was no line to get in so we walked right in. the club was already about 1/2 full, but filled up quickly. vath came to the club and was taking pics with fans and then he came on around midnight - so he played a nice long set.
his set was
some of the transistions were shaky, but he was able to move from hard techno to melodic techno to minimal to (dare i say it?) proggy/trance with some sweeping strings. he played a lot harder than i have heard him before. the place was packed when i left at 3:30 am or so - heard it went until 5 am.

This was hands down one of the best parties I have been to in a while. I loved the intimate cozy setting of Cielo along with a friendly crowd that was down for having a great time all night long. We got there towards the end of Bill Patrick's set and he was laying down some early grooves to set the stage for the night. The guy after him did a fantastic job of getting the crowd right where Sven wanted them. He played some sick sh1t and my ass was dancing early on, anyone know his name? Meanwhile, Sven was mingling with the crowd, chatting, and taking pictures...really nice of him to hang out before his set. Sven came on and the dancefloor seemed to fill out quite nicely along with the number of people getting down to some great tunes. I loved the middle part of his set the most...reminded me of the latter part of 7th Season - Continues CD...kinda eerie, kinda sick, & definitely twisted...jaw dropping tunes. The crowd was eating it up too...
I was expecting to hear loads of tunes from the 7th Season compilation but I was pleasantly surprised to only hear two, maybe three. For a Sven Vath first timer, I was thoroughly impressed. There was a bit of techno (harder than I am used to) throughout the latter part of the set but I still danced my ass off to most of it. I can't take that stuff in large doses though...I get way too tired way too fast.
Anyways...that party alone was worth the flight up from Texas. Paolo & Dubfire tonight @ Pacha! I don't have high expectations for Dubfire...however I'm really looking forward to Paolo Mojo. It's going to be way too hard to top last night with Sven. That guy is funny as hell to watch behind the decks...all kinds of antics!

Best Night EVER!! Got into NYC around 7 pm, changed in a parking garage at 8 pm...wandered around the meat district for an hour and half till club opened...Got in 1015 or so...My girlfriend and I got to meet Sven before he played and he was super cool and down to earth...He seemed like he was ready to party...He played an awesome set that got harder as the night progressed...A++++++
Highlight of the night was around 4 am...Sven ran out of the both to the bar and took a some shots...Then he started to clap on his song that he left playing in the booth...All while flipping his shirt over his head and making Cow noises...So glad I could make it up to see him...
Here are some videos and pics...

Damn I'm pissed I missed this one.

got there early a bit past 10, got in pretty quickly..sven tore cielo's soundsystem apart last night
...the mixing might not have been stellar as others have said, but the track selection made up for it. great mix of techno of all genres...heard a few things off his 6th and 7th season mix compilations..went til about quarter before 5...def glad i stuck around..he was very friendly with the fans too..checking him out again tonight @ soundbar in chicago (don't think ive ever been in an airport so drunk in my life this morning lol)..so ill post pics from both parties once i get home. good seeing francis, kristin, christina and ryan out
I don't bother to review events anymore. It's too much effort and no one cares about threads that aren't about Armin, Ferry, PvD or Sean Tyas.
I mean, hell, look at the Sasha review thread.

Drew n i were actually contemplating going to cielo thursday...but ahhh we ran a few errands after work in queens till 930pm and then we got too tiredddd. Man, work just PWNS me lately...i can barely get to work on time just on a regular schedule. bah.
anyway im glad to hear there was a good turnout and that it was awesome
i just keep missing him. i remember not being able to see him and the rest of that sick lineup at SPACE during MEGANITE WMC 2005 (i was coming in Thursday, NOT Tuesday of that week). Needless to say, I was plenty PISSED

| Originally posted by Chaska Now, now, read at GhB's post. Yes, I liked Armin a lot but remember I come from DC and that was pretty much the only tihing we got there @ Glow. I stopped listening to Armin and paying attention to the sort because sadly trance is not what used to be, and found another genre that I like better at the moment. Now, "minimal" techno to most people in NYC is not really minimal (ok, maybe some), but is more like a fusion of electro techno and house, and just slap the "minimal" label on top of that. I'm sure you would love what you would hear at some parties that maybe you haven't given a chance. I gave trance a listen for a good time but sometime last year, they lost me. |
