Driving this weekend I found myself with a car with no cd player, so I ran up and grabbed my old tapes when I first started mixing.... yes, I said TAPES!

It all came back to me with these 2 in particular...

No they don't man. Vocal now is just full of BS...cheezey, over the top, meaningless SHIT. I want back the days when you hear AMAZING vocal stuff mixed in between a well thought out balanced, flowing, wicked trance set that took you somewhere. I haven't heard one of those in 2 years...

I'll never forget first hearing Mark Oliver play "Child Of The Universe" (DJ Taucher) some 5 years ago. Total mindfcuk.

/Ian Van Dahl's Castles in the Sky still my favourite of all time though.

I disagree. There is still some very good vocal trance gems around being released. You just have to be on the lookout.

BTW Jan Johnston for the win. She needs to work with more stuff.

To each their own I guess. The vocal trance that I get a hold of these days is pretty damn awesome.

there was cheesy vocal trance back then, and there were works of art along side... its the same thing now, except there are a hefty amount of producers now getting attention in comparisson to yesterday. it just takes a lot of fine tuning nower days to seek out the music that has had more effort thrown into it. Flesh by jan is one of my all time favs ahhhhh.

OMG. Yohan liking vocal trance? *shock and die*

I'm not going to lie... 95% of vocal trance has just hideously cheesy vocal lines - the writing is so basic, and without depth. However, its those 5 percent that can absolutely blow your mind, when cleverly placed at the heart/peak of a set. Ahhh those have been some of the greatest times of my life.

Faithless consistently put out very good stuff. For the most part, those days are over. There are still some notable examples today, but very few.

Ian Van Dahl was my favourite in the early 90s. Reason, Will I?, Castles in the Sky, that ACE album was set to repeat on my cd player for a whole year.

I'd kill to go back in those days, with the above and Lasgo, Alice DeeJay, Rollergirl, 4-Strings, iio.... those were my best times.



/yeah yeah, not all trance, I know, but 2001-2003 were awesome years for EDM vocals.

yeah, typo... sorta half-assed corrected myself in the end. Castles was 2001 and Alice DeeJay even earlier.. so the 2001-2003 period. oh and I forgot the Vengaboys (yeah you others laugh now, but everyone liked them back then)
