Time Travel Question
Ok, so... Someone from the 1700's somehow gets to our time.
1. What would they be most fascinated by?
2. What would they fear the most?
My answers:
1. Television. I was going to pick airplanes, but flying is always in people's minds, and it's been attempted for 1000's of years. Television, I think, wouldn't even make sense to someone from the 1700's, because to them, it wouldn't seem to serve a purpose (Unless you showed them the news networks). The concept of light making a picture of humans, etc., would be mind boggling to him/her, I would think.
2. This one took a little more thinking. I think they would fear society the most. We really don't serve the same purpose as society of the 1700's did. A lot of people were farmers, who grew what they ate. it would be kind of weird for someone in the 1700's to see most of the population living in gluttony and excess.
Cool thread.
1. cell phones. They would be forever confused though. Hell, my grandparents still are.
2. Black society. Hell, my grandparents still are.

1) 4chan
2) 4chan
1) transportation. (i.e, cars that can drive the oregon trail in like 2 days)
2) the amount of growth of modern times. seriously, take someone from new york city in 1700, then bring them to modern day manhattan? they'd shit themselves.
If I was from the 1700's and landed in our times, I'd run away.

Because we're all spoiled with all we have that if we were to go back we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves.
I'd be pissed that I couldn't fuck around

I would love to go back to the 1700's. I'd just grow pot.

1. Cars.
What are the two main things you notice when you walk out onto the street? Buildings and cars. They would probably consider the infrastructure to be somewhat fascinating, considering how advanced it is in comparison to that of the 1700's. However, there were very intricate buildings made in the 1700's, so it isn't all that different and new.
Cars on the other hand were something that, although I am sure were somewhat imagined, I doubt were not thought to be the way that they are now. Having SO MANY of them zooming around at high speeds, these big futuristic machines with what seems to be a mind of their own, would be a very cool thing to see I think.
2. Density/activity/grandeur.
In the 1700's, population was far lower, and villages were much smaller. There was not as much activity going on, and not nearly as populated as it is now. I think the speed and the amount of people/activity/things happening around you would be very intimidating. I am sure with some time they would adjust, but immediately, I would assume that would be the most frightening thing.
1. technology
2. modern crime
1. communication in general
speech, internet, tv, etc.
2. culture
I wanted to go with a weapon or weapons in general, but I suppose you can figure out not to be afraid of being shot more easily than you can understand millions of differences in the ways people act, dress, move, and live.
