Best of 80's Rock
Meh...it's not EDM, but I'm sure there's lovers of this music that search the forum regardless.
Looking for tracks with that "care free," "i'm in love" vibe.
Examples:
The Cure - Just Like Heaven
The Cure - Friday I'm In Love
Modern English - I Melt With You
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Duran Duran - Ordinary World
suggestions please
pretty much every track on Bon Jovi's - Slippery When Wet.

idk if you can consider duran duran or new order rock without questions but if thats the case stuff from them (new order especially) and depecha mode would be my pics. BUT excluding that guns n' roses ruled the 80s without a doubt!

Might be 90's, but The Flaming Lips - Morning of the Magicians comes immediately to mind. I assume the time period isn't as important as the general feel.
Also,
The Stone Roses - Waterfall
New Order - True Faith
Duran Duran - Electric Barbarella
Depeche Mode - Policy of Truth (whole Violator album, though a bit darker)
The Cure - Lovesong
The Cure - Close To Me
U2 - Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby albums
REM - Radio Free Europe

I can see that the threadstarter likes his "new-wavey" stuff. so here are some good (IMO) 80s new-wave album reccomendations.
The Chameleons- "Strange Times"
This is an amazingly underrated band. Huge emotional melodic guitars side by side with lush synths. The following address has a video from a tune called "Up the Down escalator" coming from their second album
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iwxkLByt68
Killing Joke- "Brighter than a Thousand Suns"
This is my favorite killing joke album. Chocked in melody, its trully an album that radiates light from start to finish. Here is a fantastic tune from the current album called "Adorations".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFAVCYgcg3U
Joy Division- "Closer"
Joy Division was the band that became famous as "new order". Before writing synth-pop hits, these guys had a leader (who eventually commited suicide) named ian curtis, a flawless musical genius by all means (but you probably already know that). "Closer" is their masterpiece, but "substance" is a collection of their first tunes. Here is their famous "love will tear us apart".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNMbuygEju8
Cocteau Twins- "Treasure"
The famous lush new-wave band who created the shoegaze genre. "Head over heels", "The moon and the melodies","Treasure", "Blue bell knoll", "heaven or las vegas" are all amazing albums. The sound of a dream. Here is a beautifull tune called "Lorelei" from the album "Treasure".

Clan of Xymox- "Medusa"
Another atmospheric band from the 4AD label, the label of dead can dance, cocteau twins, this mortal coil, bauhaus and... clan of xymox! Clan of xymox still produce standard melodic goth-rock today, but their "gold" era was in the beginning of the 80s, with albums like "Xymox", "Medusa" and "A Twist of Shadows". Layers and layers of nice synths and quitars, this is trully lovely stuff. Their second album "Medusa" is one of the best (or just the best?) albums of the 80s IMO. Here is a video of "Louise", an amazing tune from "Medusa".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KemEya90llo
Bauhaus- "Singles 1979-1983 parts 1 and 2".
Did i mention bauhaus? Yes the famous dark experimental new-wave/post-punk band bauhaus who started the "goth" mevement. Dark, brooding and full of angst, but at the same time hypnotic and romantic. The following link provides a video of a classic tune called "in the flat field".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pR7_9mLOM4
Echo and the Bunnymen- "Ocean Rain"
These guys played some amazing melodic and dark music. Dodgy name but really beautiful sounds. Ocean rain is extremely good. "The killing moon" is a classic tune, but here is "silver", another excellent tune from "Ocean Rain".Listen to it here...

The Fixx- "Reach The Beach".
Another amazing new-wavey/post-punkish/synth-poppy band!Lots of atmosphere. Here is a link for their classic 80s hit coming from their "Shuttered Room" album "Red Skies at night". "Reach the Beach" is a more accomplished album though.

OMD (Orchestral Maneuvres in the Dark)- "Architecture and Morality".
Amazing synth-pop/new-wave album from an amazing new-wave band OMD of the famous "Enola Gay", "Electricity" etc. hits. This album is excellent. Listen to "Joan of Arc" to get an idea.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFj65qkag20
Simple Minds- "Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call"
The absolutely amazing simple minds, the band who largelly influenced U2. This album, together with "New Gold Dream" provide some of the best 80s moments. Here is a tune called "In trance as mission" by "Sons and Fascination".
