Looking for a place to rent in Toronto
Hey guys, I am looking for a place to rent starting August or perhaps earlier somewhere midtown or downtown...
I was wondering if anyone knows a decent place to rent, house or apartment. Looking for something with 2 rooms, close to a subway station and costing between $1000-1100 monthly.
Anyone knows about anything worthwhile checking out? Any response will be appreciated!
Thank alot.
pretty tough downtown with that price.. up near younge and bloor you'll have better luck with that price range..
this site is great for finding a place

you could buy a decent condo downtown for 1100 monthly, don't pay rent
is downtown cheaper than Yonge-Eglinton or Yonge-Lawrence areas??
i know a few people that live around those 2 areas and they pay $900 for a bachelor, and $1400 for a 2 bedroom...
Thanks for all the suggestions and comments people

definitely check out craigslist alex, lots of good deals on there.
i found my 2br right next to christie pitts there.
it is a basement, but only $850/util incl.
whatever you do dont move into a metcap building
theyre the WORST.
i live in one of their buildings and ive never seen such shoddy management in my life. everyone that ive had to deal with from the building super right up to the property manager is either incompetent or crooked..the day my lease is up im going to be out of this place so fast ill leave vapour trails..
park property is much better company to deal with

You are going to be hard pressed to find a reasonable 2 bedroom above-ground for $1000.
I am currently renting a 2 bedroom for 1150, at Yonge and Lawrence. I absolutely love my place, and the fact that I am 3min from the subway.
I just checked to see what is available, and unfortunately my building only has 1 bedrooms left.

yes they are bad but the price and location. I can not beat it. Your best bet is to rent a house with some friends or look for a roommate on crigslist.
One warning.. Make sure there are no bedbugs in the building. I had an appartment around carlton & sherborne and the whole building was filled with bedbugs, which obviously I didn't anticipate before moving in. They are annoying, bite you while you sleep, living in your bed and all your stuff, and insanely hard to get rid of. I had to throw out all my bedroom furniture and matresses and pack everything I owned in garbage bag wrapped boxes and leave them for 10 months to make sure none surivived when I moved out.
AND while I lived there I had to deal with multiple exterminator visits, which required moving all the furniture to the center of the rooms, standing up the matresses, washing every piece of clothing and bedding and curtain you own. And moving out any pets you have. And the bedbugs will come back a few weeks later, guaranteed.
So.. especially if it's an older building, check carefully around the crevices of the walls in the bedroom, and ask the landlord or super if they've ever had problems in the past.
If it's a newer place I wouldn't worry so much though.

Crescent Town on Victoria Park and Danforth, nice affordable apartment complex right on the bloor subway line..2 min walk, i paid 899 for a large nice 2 bedroom inclusive and there is a gym membership included. Nice area, mall and grocery store within 10 min walk and DVP park/valley also right next to it. It takes 10 min to get downton from there.

Just an aside: am I the only one that hates craigslist? It's completely unorganized, difficult to navigate, and has minimal visuals.
