do strawberries have laxative properties

I feel shitty today (no pun there) and the only thing i've done differently in the last couple of days is eat about a kilo of fresh strawberries now the nice variety is in season. Are they responsible for my upset stomach or are they actually really good for me

How well did you wash them? Perhaps there were some pesticides still left over?

Seep the LEAVES in hot water, like tea, trust me, it's one of the best natural laxatives.

i washed them pretty well. like i wash my salad stuff. I'm picking another lb up in a minute, but i'll wash those extra well. The variety we get here in the spring-summer is the best in the world, so i'm not missing out on the freshness

I believe too much of anything could result in a laxative effect considering the body will eventually try to purge itself of all the food en mass.

Solution: triple up on the recommended daily dosage of death spores and remorse starch.

Yup, fruits in general with their high fructose contents can tend to cause bowel movements..

A kilo!
That's an awful lot of strawberries!

Posted by Rinster on May-10-2007 14:49:

i dont think its the strawberries themself.. i think its the spray what the farmer had put on them to prevent insects, birds etc from eating them. just wash them a bit better next time. i could be wrong though.

How did I know you were going to post somewhere else concerning another person's bowel movements?

i know, they're just that tasty and they're half price at the moment Ah well. i'll try to wash them and intersperse them with stuff which isn't so good for me but will maybe not upset me

Posted by Rinster on May-10-2007 15:00:

a viagra might keep the shit hard to.

Posted by Lilith on May-10-2007 15:07:

Well if they're cheap, buy lots and drag out the blender.
Then make some jam. Maybe grab a few litres of ice cream, mash them in there and make strawberry ice cream!

But really just start making frozen daiquiri's with them until you pass out a complete wreck.

Wrong. It doesn't really matter if pesticide is used or not. I know, i've been into the biz.

quote:
Pesticides can present danger to consumers, bystanders, or workers during manufacture, transport, or during and after use [28]. There is concern that pesticides used to control pests on food crops are dangerous to the consumer. These concerns are one reason for the organic food movement. Many food crops, including fruits and vegetables, contain pesticide residues after being washed or peeled (see Pesticide residues in food, above). Residues, permitted by US government safety standards, are limited to tolerance levels that are considered safe, based on average daily consumption of these foods by adults and children.

Strawberries are also high in acid. If you eat too many, or too much, it can result in an ulcer, which means the stomach pain is simply the strawberry acid eating your tummy.

Congrats

More likely, and hopefully for your sake... you just ate too many and have a tummy ache. You will have the worst runs later though... and they will likely burn.

Good luck.

cool, so now you can hullucinate on strawberries?! awesome!

eat nothing but rice and dont drink any water. you'll be shitting bricks guaranteed

If you eat that much of any fruit itll happen. The "laxative properties" is just fiber, and when youre not used to it, yeah, itll happen.

Posted by pvdAngel on May-10-2007 17:53:

Like any fruit, it should be good for you. But you should know that too much of anything is bad for you.
