The flyer is a bit confusing on its own, I must say.... :-\

Posted by Alain on May-11-2007 22:07:

how so?

Posted by DaveT on May-11-2007 22:11:

If I came across the flyer w/o knowing much about the event, I may not realize that it's multiple rooms as there's no mention of it on the flyer. I would have to figure it out by going that's too many DJs for the main room. Beyond that, I'd worry that like Derrick Carter and these other house DJs would be opening for Tiesto when they are obviously in the house room. But it shouldn't be assumed that someone reading the flyer will realize that.

Maybe it's just me. But trying to look at everything from an outside perspective...as if I was just some random person...it's one of the biggest things I do at work when managing big projects so little things like that pop up to me bigtime. Little things like this pop out at me.

One thing I've learned is not to assume everyone has common sense. Blame it on the billion times I've been involved with focus groups and seeing how they think about things. Have learned that they go by what they see and don't like to think.

Was that a genuine question? Or just sarcasm to my last post? ;P

Coming as a customer going to this, Im in agreement with the flyer confusion. I would have liked to see who is opening and closing out this night for Tiesto.

I would have liked to see Tiesto do more than a 3 hour set also. Im sure most of us would have liked that. But thats just my opinion.

Not knocking the talent on the flyer. Just feel a little short changed on the VIP Pricing. It seems a little much for a show that Tiesto is only going to play 3 hours at.

Will there be anything extra or special included with the VIP Ticket also?

Posted by Alain on May-12-2007 02:04:

that flyer is just a teaser, the main one with complete and clear details will be out next weekend (I hope)

in fact my only complaint of the teaser is I wish it had less information and more important text was in bigger font

it doesn't even announce the breaks arena Opel is putting together and from what I'm hearing it is looking good

and more house DJs will be added along with Derrick, Mark and Doc

again it's just a teaser, many times there isn't even a DJ announced on the first flyer.

I see it differently because, this isn't a normal club venue... It's Bill Graham, it's 10,000 capacity... and yea, 3 hours doesn't seem like much for Tiesto, but hell, when was the last time Tiesto did a MASSIVE in the Bay Area?
When was the last time PVD or AVB did a massive in the Bay Area?
I remember PVD awhile back, but not 3 hours... and he was one of the opening acts because he was double booked for a club later that night...

hahaha... fuckin Coolworld....
http://www.coolworld.com/pny2003/flash/x/main-t.html

Did anybody go to that??

overall, I'm surprised they got Tiesto for 3 hours much less an hour and a half for an event this big in Nor Cal....
The only thing that bothers me is that 3 am ending time... I wonder why they couldn't get the normal 4 am time?

Posted by DaveT on May-12-2007 03:17:

Way too much info on that to be seen as a teaser by the masses.

Alain, I agree with your take. If it was a teaser, just would have emphasized Tiesto much more and mentioned the other rooms and listed the other DJs with that and not much else. Would have had the Tiesto website on Skillsdj.com ready and have people go to that while more info is known and then when nearly everything is known would have done a full blown kick ass flyer.

And yes, I hope what I've heard from the breaks room works out....cause then all around between the three rooms it's gonna awesome.

The VIP info on the text is a bit confusing...should have just said more VIP info coming soon and not mention anything else. Or to just call Ruby for tables/bottle service. I mean, is VIP table/bottle service only? Or is there a general VIP (which I hope is better than past VIPs) where you can also upgrade from there to get tables/bottle service. And if there is a general VIP, will alcohol be available? I've heard that you couldn't serve alcohol behind the stagae at Bill Graham and it was out of the event organizer's control...but I Heard this like three years ago and things might have changed!

As you can see, I myself am flat out confused by some of the info released... lol

I'm thinking with RS organizing the VIP area, they'll hold it up to the same standards they do with their own venue - of course at the same time utilizing whatever resources are available to them at Bill Graham

Well maybe but then Skills says you can upgrade your gen ticket to a VIP ticket right at the Skill's store -- doesn't mention getting a table or anything and it doesn't say it'd go through Ruby SKye. That makes me think there is a general VIP area....but again, clarification needs to be made. I dunno who I should talk to to get it clarified because it's confusing marketing is not going.

i would want VIP GA but not bottle services VIP. Is there going to be GA VIP?

I dont want to be a dick, and in fact i support skills all the way, but if you can make the drive to LA i would do that. Tiesto is playing a 4-5 hour set just like his european ones - with props and everything. The SF one is just another dj gig promoting his new cd. He sucked at Ultra because the new cd isnt that great so given only 2 hours he wont play that great of a set (though he is supposed to do 3 hours in SF if no one cuts him short).

I just heard nothing but good news from european friends who saw the Tiesto in Concert Elements of Life show, so im eager to see what the true setup and show is like in LA.

Yeah, I'll be driving down to L.A from the Bay Area. I think it may be worth the drive.

Posted by Alain on May-15-2007 22:56:

There are obvious differences between the SF event and LA one. If Tiesto is your only and primary reason for attending a high capacity event, then there's probably very little to decide upon.

However the lineup surrounding his appearance in SF is a rare one for people under 21. The rest of the talent confirmed and pending are DJs who most of the time play 21+ night clubs.

Besides both events are a full two weeks apart.

I think it's safe to assume that a lot people who are dynamic enough make the trip down south to see Tiesto probably have as much interest to hear house and breaks headliners within walking distance.

Very good point. I just noticed the flyer actually for the first time. Didnt think there would be much besides Tiesto and locals for the SF show. Once again skills knows how to well round an event.

And that lineup is NOWHERE near complete. I hope the rest of the lineup that's being worked on comes through because it'll make it a stellar all around event. Believe there will be about 15 acts in all when all is said and done.

And remember, Spundae and Ruby Skye are very much involved with this night in addition to Skills!
