Thumbs up May 18 :: HouSexy First Anniversary w/ Habersham, Blake Jarrell, and Ben Brown!

AMP & VISION NIGHTCLUB PRESENT...

HouSexy 1 Year Anniversary in the Vision Lair w/ HABERSHAM
Friday, May 18 2007

Believe it or not, the HouSexy 1 year anniversary is just around the corner!_ Not to worry, we're showing no signs of slowing down... not with this week's stellar lineup._ AMP is proud to present visionary DJ and producer Habersham from Atlanta, along with local favorites Blake Jarrell, Ben Brown, and newcomer DJ Shu._ As an added bonus, we're throwing Hoang from Avalon LA in the lineup.

Visuals provided by Brinkman.

HABERSHAM [Audio Therapy, Blueprint, Lobotomy, Atlanta]
Young Habersham has achieved more in 5 years than most hope to achieve in a lifetime: hes played in over 19 cities worldwide, from Australia to Turkey, Budapest to Amsterdam, throughout the States, Mexico and Central America; he has over 30 releases under his belt on labels such as Audio Therapy, Global Underground, Proton, and his own Blueprint & Lobotomy imprints; his music has been featured on over 10 of the worlds most prestigious compilations & mix CDs such as Renaissance (x3), Global Underground, Bedrock Breaks (x2), Distinctives Y4K, Balance, et al. And in 2005 he recorded 2 exclusive radio mixes for both Annie Nightingales BBC 1 and John Digweeds Transitions shows as well as numerous mixes aired on international radio shows in Germany, Turkey, Hungary, Australias JJJ, and throughout America.

Not bad for a 24 year old. Hes done a fantastic job, you might say. Damon would disagree. He hasnt done enough not nearly enough.

Now hes getting his hands dirty with technology filthy dirty. Hes not only creating music that tears down boundaries, but hes dabbling with creating full original visual and other sensory stimulation. Habersham is shedding the limitations of turntables and CDJs, moving towards a completely unique live performance incorporating various media forms into his live show.

Some listeners have described his music as subtle, twisted underground music. Some say its a bit too weird. Others cannot even find the words to describe his taste, and this is what makes him most proud. Perhaps the greatest of compliments is when an artist cannot be labeled or boxed in, which explains why Damian Lazarus, James Holden, Pig & Dan, Phil K, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela, Dave Seaman, Nic Fanciulli, Ozgur Can and even Slam give heavy rotation to his selections.

BLAKE JARRELL [Armada, Organized Nature]
Blake Jarrell's love for electronic dance music began in New Orleans. At the age of 15, he would sneak into the cities freshest clubs to see such influencing acts as Sasha, Armin Van Buuren, and Sander Kleinenberg. Almost immediately, Blake started making his own contributions to the underground dance music world, firstly in the form of a floaty progressive breakbeat single "Apricot" with former production partner, the late Starkid. From here he helped define the atmospheric and progressive breakbeat movement at the time with singles such as "Destin Beach" and "Okoboji". His production efforts not only got him acclaim in the dance music community, but academically as well, having received a full scholarship to Loyola University New Orleans College of Music Business.

Just as Blake began to get comfortable, tragedy struck. On August 29th, 2005, Blake's hometown of New Orleans was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, leaving his life totally uprooted. This disaster prompted a move to Chicago where Blake quickly immersed himself in the booming house, techno, and trance scenes of the historic city. With this new influence, Blake began to develop his current sound that is undefinable. You can't call it house. You can't call it techno. You can't call it trance. One thing is for sure though, you can count on every major DJ from all areas of electronic dance music to praise and hammer Blake's work. Armin Van Buuren and Gabriel & Dresden listed Blake as their "Hope for 2007" in DJ Magazine's Top 100 Poll. Tiesto even stuck Blake in his personal voting ballot. Blake is also getting repeated plays and support by the likes of Pete Tong, Matthew Dekay, Sandra Collins, Paul Oakenfold, Markus Schulz, and many others all across the board for tracks like his remixes of Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars" (w/ Topher Jones), Anna Nalick's "Breathe", the Pink Floyd classic "Comfortably Numb", Blake's own "Glitter Gun", and Blake's Dane Cook sampling "Dood I Just Wanna Dance".[/b]

BEN BROWN [Lyon Echo, TranceTribe Recordings]
Ben Brown was born in 1983 and raised in the suburbs of Indianapolis. With his mother being an avid piano player and his constant exposure to music from all genres, it seemed inevitable that he would find his passion in music. Ben discovered the sounds of dance music at the tender age of 15 and quickly found himself immersed in the then new sounds of trance and progressive.

More recently, he has shown an innate ability for pleasing the ears of dance music fans in the Midwest and beyond. When in Indianapolis, Ben performed at a number of Indianapolis hottest clubs, including Therapy, Blu, and Gelo Ultra Lounge.

In the Fall of 2006, Ben made the move to Chicago. Along with a hectic schedule of graduate school and work at a 9-to-5, Ben found instant success with his music, getting booked for gigs at a number of Chicago's finest dance music venues, including the renowned Vision Nightclub.

As a DJ, Ben's mixes have been aired on a number of major internet radio stations, including cameos on Frisky Radio, ETN, and XTC Radio London._ His mixes have also aired on the FM airwaves across the world; from hosting the weekly dance music show "Sunday Sessions" on 91.5 WGRE to having a mix aired on Greece's 88.7 FM.

As a producer, Ben began experimented with creating dance music at the age of 17, but it wasn't until early 2005 before he decided to invest serious time and effort into producing quality dance music. Since then, his head has been deeply buried in the studio, where he continues to strive to create great music that defies genre classification and keeps the dance floors moving.

The future looks bright for Ben. He currently working on a number of original productions, remixes, and collaborations and can be found working with the finest DJs and Producers in Chicago and beyond.
