-- UWSP is the new Boston.

Thumbs down UWSP is the new Boston.

Fucking hell - someone just came onto campus carrying a gun case that had a tranquilizer gun and electronic tags (for tagging species in the wild), and some idiot had to overreact, leading to the complete evacuation of campus in the middle of the first day of finals.

I should note that we have the #1 college of Natural Resources in the country, and such a scene is commonplace - not too mention the "culprit" was a UW teaching assistant and adjunct professor in full CNR/DNR uniform, heading into the college of natural resources in the same fashion he probably has dozens of times in the past 20 years.

I'm all for safety, but fucks sake - people need to use their brains at least occasionally.

Idiots.

lol, and RJT I was gonna ask if you knew a certain proffessor from your esquela, who I heard on the radio the other day, but his name has completely excaped my mind

Posted by lcid on May-14-2007 21:06:

was it a student that called the incident in? because honestly if i was all stressed out from finals and i saw someone walking with a gun case, i might get a little paranoid too. it's more understandable than a bunch of Lite-Brites, anyway.

Hey tranquilizer guns are scary. I think we've all seen "Old School".

Perhaps, but it wasn't as if he was walking around campus with it - he was pretty much unloading his car in plain sight and, from my understanding, with the help of students.

I don't know, I guess I'll wait to hear the full details later on, but the general "culture of fear" mentality really just fucks me off anyway.

Oh it just really fucks me right the fuck fucking off aswell.

lol, it wasn't a student either, it was a faculty member:

Here's the email I just received from the university.

quote:

In light of recent events, the College of Natural Resources Building (CNR) on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus was evacuated at 2:30pm this afternoon. Around 2:25pm a faculty member observed an individual entering the CNR Building with what appeared to be a gun case. The faculty member reported this incident to the dean of the college. The dean immediately notified UW-SP Protective Services. The Stevens Point Police Department was called to the campus. Law enforcement personnel ordered an evacuation of the building and conducted a room-by-room search. The individual was found and law enforcement determined that the gun case contained only scientific equipment.

Seriously, there are so many people who enter that building with cases that look like gun cases, there's absolutely no reason any faculty member who's been here more than 5 minutes should question it.

Ah well.

RJT you should ditch the backpack and carry your shit in a gun case, imo.

Posted by lcid on May-14-2007 21:40:

maybe there's some inter-department drama that you don't know about! professor #1 may have stolen professor #2's pudding cups from the fridge in the teachers lounge and now this is just his or her way of getting revenge.

you don't fuck with another person's pudding, imo.

What about when using chocolate pudding as an anal lubricant?

Posted by CONNERMAN2000 on May-14-2007 21:42:

Thanks to 9/11 and now VA Tech, a squirt gun fight will be immediately put to an end by a SWAT sniper headshotting a 9 year old whom is also soaking wet from getting owned in said squirt gun fight.

Ridiculous.

i personally prefer using the chocolate-vanilla swirl in situations of such nature. the two colors blending together lets you know when you're lubed up nice and good.

has the "tranquilizer" been tested for uranium? (on the school's bill of course)

Posted by gehzumteufel on May-14-2007 23:08:

whats funny is the city i work in (irvine, cali) if ANYONE sees a gun they go ape shit. kids refer to it as the "irvine bubble" because kids are very sheltered here. the parents are also all overprotective.

Posted by AndreaCKY772 on May-15-2007 01:36:

i'm sure the person just wanted to be safe and had a notion of precaution. sucks it hindered some people's plans at the campus though

Posted by Zharen on May-15-2007 10:36:

Did there happen to be any K in those tranquilizer shells? If so, I'd have used the confusion of the evacuation to my advantage.
