Did anyone watch Paula Zahn last night?

I was at the gym when I was watching this so I didnt hear what they were saying but Ill recap the best I can from what I read and saw.

One of her "Out in the Open" stories was about a 91 year old man who had his car stolen and the situation was cought on a parking lot camera. A guy came up to him and opened the car door and pinned the old man between the door and the car next to him. Then he slammed the door on his body a couple times. Then he pinned him again and punched him in the head - I kid you not - about 20 times. The guy got in the car and drove away, and in the meantime the old man collapsed on the pavement.

The whole time there were about 4 people two parking spots away that just stood there and did NOTHING.

When I saw this I started tearing up (in the gym, mind you), and I thought I was going to be sick. Theres a lot of stuff on the news that Im immune to, but not stuff like this. I have a strong sense of responsibility towards my fellow human being, and it makes me sick to think that people could watch that happen and not even move.

Whats wrong with people???

Well for one, people watch shit like Paula Zahn and Nancy Grace

In all seriousness though, I saw this video a day or two ago when the story broke and it's definitely pretty fucked up.

Some people are stupid.

I could understand someone trying to break into a car, and passersby not doing anything, because some people forget their keys, and need to break into their own car, lol.

But when someone sees an old man being pinned, and slammed with the car door, obviously something is wrong, and someone should have tried to be a hero.

stupid people

I dont really have an opinion because the only time I watch here is at the gym when theres nothing else on. Is her show usually pretty sensational?

What's wrong with people? Too selfish and no sense of moral obligation. That is, their heads are up their ass.

It's just one of those shows that isn't really news at all, it's like a half hour special interest piece half the time, and the other half it tries to be relevant to whatever the BIG story of the day is.

I am not a fan of talking head shows.

I am, however, a fan of the Talking Heads.

if it happens to you, point one person out and ask them for help...if they are wearing like a blue shirt say, hey blue shirt, kick this guys ass!!

that way they feel personally responsible to help you out. otherwise they have others to blame for their inaction.

I don't watch the news.

rob im normally not on people for much shit but why are you making a big shit fit over these types of shows? yes i agree they arent the most informative, they are very biased, slanted, and dont give you enough information to be very educated in the subject. but cant you take it for what it is? informational for people who have NO CLUE? its a great way to get a small tidbit that causes you to research it more on your own. thats the point of these types of shows. to spur people into thinking about things. taking action. researching things. they arent made to be taken as total fact.

assume they have one. proceed to the rear of your car. remove the tire iron that is in there for the spare. proceed to move your car behind the old fellas. exit car with tire iron. beat thief with tire iron. end of problem.

while i dont disagree they may be pricks, that doesnt change the content or the importance (or lack thereof depending on the issue) of the information at hand. if i murder someone, and some prick is the one talking about it, does that detract from the story? it sure as hell shouldnt and thats my point. the story at hand is still in some way important (not necessarily to everyone of course) and they are relaying information.

lol to be honest...im not sure how i would react in that situation either. i say that shit but ive never experienced being in that situation. i would hope that i would do something such as that but until i have been in a situation such as this i cant really say.

(nacy grace is her name, i just remembered)

eh, well they usually they a normal story and put extreme views on it, its part of their job i guess, to be controversial but it gets annoying fast. the fact that they talk about a story for sooooooooooo long gets annoying too. but i guess that is the problem with the main news outlets now a days, they obvsessed with stories and dont let them go. Sending 3 reporters to the scene, bringing a psychologist in the studio and a behavioral therapist and anyone that knew the victim/accused. :/

Youre being a pussy. Im 1/2 your size and I would have walked right up to that guy. No, he didnt have a gun.

i feel the same way. i don't know much about this situation but the ppl who saw it occur must have been first shocked and then called 911. we don't know whether they were middle aged women. i think most of us would think twice engaging a violent criminal. this whole hero bull shit is stuff of hollywood. its easy for us on a message board to say we'd kicked his ass.

everything in the news is sensationalized. so yes i agree that the same story is repeated WAYY too many times. case in point: anna nicole smith. its stupid but its the way it is. it is unfortunate.

yeah. its really hard to say what you would do if youve never experienced being in that situation. especially with violent criminals. want to make sure you can do something? keep a basball bat in your trunk, but make sure there is also a baseball glove there too otherwise they can get ya for illegally carrying a concealed weapon.

I really do believe that if those people had screamed "Hey Im calling the cops" that guy would have taken off so fast...
