Short term memory loss?

Anyone notice their short term memory going down the tubes ever since drug use? I do. I mean, looking back, I had excellent memory, but everything is kind of foggy once drugs entered the picture.

I'm not saying I'm as dumb as a rock, but sometimes I get these brain farts and I'm like, "jesus Jamie wtf". Like I literally have a hard time remembering stuff from the day before. Is that normal?

The other night this chick came into the restaurant that I work at and I instantly remembered her name and that she was the step daughter of my tennis instructor when I was in 5th grade. lol I knew her name and everything. Most people just dont remember that shit, but I did. I wasnt even good friends with her.

It just seems like I have no problem remembering stuff from before I started using drugs. I mean, obviously this is a no-brainer. Obviously my drug use has affected my brain. I'm just wondering if anyone can relate, and also, is there anyway to fix it or am I permanently brain damaged?

that & drinking. Yeah, it's been proven over & over & over again.

Back in the day, when I had the oz. per week weed habit, I couldn't fucking remember what I had for breakfast. Since I laid off the weed, the memory is much better. However, I will say this, too: when I was in college taking 18 hr. semesters, my memory was being put to the test daily. After college, I didn't have to use memorization nearly as much, so I think that had some effect as well.

Moral of the story: weed is fun but it fucks with short term memory.

P.S. I had Multigrain Cheerios.

< all term memory loss, my biggest fault.

I am just scatter-brained with mundane tasks. Nothing to do with drugs. I can memorize the Office 2003 CD key no problem, but I can't remember my friggin' cell phone half the time.

The only remedy is prevention of further damage. So that would mean quitting (lol, I know the thought is ridiculous) doing drugs and drinking alcohol.

Also, keep your brain healthy by 'exercising' it. The phrase "use it or lose it" DOES apply here. Do things like crosswords, or read, or anything you find intellectually stimulating. Having strong social and emotional connections also helps.

There's lot of research out there about vitamins and minerals and such that have been shown to help increase brain function and improve memory too.

I have no idea how many movies I've seen yet not remember anything about it. Some movies I've seen 3 times and can't remember anything but brief scenes.

no i think in my case it's drug use. when i was a kid i was in gifted classes, i was speaking full adult-like sentences by the age of 2. i was just generally an extremely smart kid from the time i was born up until i was like 14. my teachers were always talking to my mom about how smart i was. then in high school, it became the same story from my teachers. that i was so smart, and not living up to my potential. i was too busy smoking pot and skipping class.

when i made that move to Japan for 10th & 11th grade, my grades improved and I was playing sports and stuff, so I was much better, and then I came back to the U.S. and started doing "e" every single weekend practically and continued my partying and drug use for several years after graduating too. it sucked because I had like a solid B average after Japan and then barely graduated with a low C average and didnt apply to any colleges because I knew I wouldnt get in.

then when I was like 23, all my friends were graduating from major universities and I was like, Damn, I need to go to college. lol

i just think it's strange how gifted and smart i was until i started using drugs. now i'm just average in the brains department with shitty short term memory lol

yea i started reading. got a book i can't put down actually. they also say people who retire young die early. i mean not all of them obviously, but it's healthy to keep exercising your brain as you put it.

i know it's hard to believe but i actually was.

i wouldn't put myself in the genius category (obviously) but i was in all gifted classes, always qualified for AP classes in middle & high school. i was just really smart and one of those kids who could walk into a test and wing it and get a C from barely studying for 15 minutes. my reading comprehension skills and memory skills were ridiculous.

yea they are, but having a good short term memory as an adult in college is crucial.
