Progressive trance ideas

any of you guys want to share some of your progressive trance tips?

i have been doing a lot of uplifting trance lately but want to start producing some progressive tracks soon say in a couple weeks. (mainly ambient ,dark progressive type tracks. even some psychadelic tracks).

a few characteristics i noticed ,

there is no super saw lead

the lead is more dark grittier
lot of distoriton is used
the bass is more over powering, more funky and hass lots of movement
a lot more percussion and fx is used
and the over all structure is different ,its more envolved.

anyone else want to add your tips.

you talking about prog or psy are i'd say they are alot different in style. Obviously psy being for certain 'states of mind'

Do something unexpected.

mainly progressive trance right now any ideas on that would be helpful ,im not looking for a blueprint ,or template just some characteristics.

Could be wrong because I don't pay much attention to genres etc. but:

I think progressive tracks often just keep building and building, rather than trance which breaks down and builds up. Progressive tracks are llike a really long build up.

They also use very different sounds, stuff which is more off the wall than normal trance, closer to house really, a favourite seems to be really woody sounding plucks, eg blue tubes by hydroid.

Er, may add more if I think of anything.

if i do something unexpected and be unique like i usuallly do and not do something like the norm .No one will dig my stuff ,only when i sound like the norm so thats why i was asking about some characteristics to incorporate into my next prog track. ill post my track here when its done by the way.

+1000 like i always say, yeh styles and subgenres ARE important for lableing and stuff but a producer should never think " oh today im gona make a house track or today im gona make a trance track" thats retarded just make what you want to make, a producer should think " oh today i got into a fight with my girl and im really angry so i want to make something thate xpresses that" . thats the way to go my friend.

depends if your making music or a t4rack to dance too

But yeah i is easier if the song you make is influenced by how you feel. you put more into it.

It's too late! They've already got to him! Run before he infects you with his pop artist ethos!

Prog can benifit from organic sounding instruments... acoustic instruments, or world instruments. Layer those over a loopy side-chained bass+pad and you are ready to sound only half original.
