i never saw 28 days later, but i saw the 28 weeks later the other day because my brother wanted to see it. it was really pretty good. not a huge zombie movie person, but i enjoyed it. the fact that they moved quickly unlike old school zombies really made it crazy...i liked that element.

I was shaking my head until I got to your posts. I mean you really can't be a fan of Zombie movies if you haven't seen either of these movies. These were the movies that started it all and which all other zombie movies are measured against. All movies that have come after have been based off of Romero. Truly a classic and very scary and eerie as well. Dispels the mistaken notion you need lots of special effects to make a horror flick.

Night of the Living Dead or Dead Alive are good ones

And quite a few other's...

aren't BRAINDEAD and DEAD-ALIVE the same movie? I'm talking about the one with Peter Jackson as director...

Yeah, Peter Jackson was the director for Brain Dead. Maybe they marketed it under a different name in other countries

But you know the lawnmower scene, right?

Yeah, "Dead-Alive" and "Braindead" are the same movie - "Braindead" is simply the international title.

Though it's not to be confused with "Brain Dead"(2 words) which starred Bill Paxton and Bill Pullman. It was also a very good horror film, but had more to do with the horrors of reality/unreality while exploring portions of the brain rather than infectious rat-monkeys.

Though it's true that Romero set quite a few standards with the original Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, I think that italian directors like Fulci and Argento were perfecting zombies/gory horror in cinema around the time of Dawn of the Dead. City of the Living Dead is one that is very much worth checking out if you can find it (sort of obscure though).

The original 1978 Dawn Of The Dead still does it for me, especially Romero's Director's Cut but surprisingly for a remake, the 2004 remake isn't half bad either.
